The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

This RPG is truely a Masterpiece, while most modern RPGs even Bioware and Bethesda are made to fit the PG 13 Demographic, this is one made for adults. It was a mature, tasteful and generally great game. Theres Sex, Drugs, Racism but its not tacked on for shock value, its woven into the game to make the world feel world, because lets be honest, these things exist in the real world and such there are alot of tough decisions to make. I cant imagine why anyone wouldnt have played this yet, but its good enough this will be the third time I've purchased this game.

As a big fan of RPGs I bought The Witcher (together with The Witcher 2) expecting a game that would deliver a solid, long story in a new universe. I wasn't disappointed at all! I basically had two issues with the game, which I guess are more interesting to hear about than what I liked about it: 1: Being built on a modified engine by Bioware, the controls feel clunky at times. So basically the same stiff controls you usually find in games like Dragon Age and Neverwinter Nights are also present here, the difference being that you only control one character in this game, so you end up expecting tighter controls. They've done pretty well adapting the engine though, so it's not all bad news! 2: A lot of the sidequests are inspired by the good old MMO-style of gathering pieces of monster and delivering to a questgiver. This is obviously optional, but since you get XP from everything you might feel compelled to run around doing the quests even though you can't stand them. With that said there's a ton of value for money here if you can get past the clunkiness that we all know and love from Bioware RPGs, and MMO-style sidequests.

The title says it all. The RPG and adult content is top notch. I feel like I am a adult when playing this game and the game is respecting me as such, but the melee combat isn't on part with staple franchises. Control scheme doesn't help this.

The title of the review is the most accurate description I can come up with for this game. I got this game for free, perhaps an year or two ago? Can't remember. I was excited because at the time I had seen plenty of praise regarding this franchise. So I installed it and went on to play. However, my expectations were not met in many aspects. I wasn't satisfied with the quick-time-event combat system, the abundance of cutscenes, the voice acting and the general feel of "What am I supposed to do here?" that it gave me. I moved past the prologue, hardly understanding any of it and then quit soon after starting out on the outskirts of Vizima. A few months ago, I was bored and wanted to play something so I went right back to it, hoping a second experience will be more interesting. I started the game all over again from the prologue, dipped my toes into two or three quests from the first chapter then I got bored again and ultimately uninstalled, deciding to just not play it ever again. Thank fuck I didn't keep to my decision. A few days ago I decided to give it another chance. Third time's a charm, right? Well... it was!! My God, I feel bad for disregarding this game for so long. Sure, it's very rough around the edges but the story is intriguing! I was finally able to understand the premise and it suddenly made everything so much better. I finally began understanding the mechanics and it's so much easier to delve into the experience and to feel the game. I've just finished the first chapter of the story and I must say, I've been nothing but surprised by it. I'm sorry, CD Projekt Red, for so quickly misjudging your game. I had to take a little time off to write this review but I can't wait to continue my adventure! To anyone out there who's first picking up this raw gem, don't do the same mistake I did. Give the game a chance, it will surprise the hell out of you!
