The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

I've had this game on Steam and then on here almost since it first came out. Even after the "enhanced" edition came out that allegedly fixed a ton of the issues the original release had, it's still one of the most broken and ineptly designed games I have ever played. The writing is decent I guess(The Witcher book series is highly overrated IMO, and the author is a really arrogant jerk and something of a hack), but the gameplay is horrendous. Combat uses a stance and sort of rhythm system with counters and timed attacks which sounds like it should be fun, but it's so unintuitive and poorly implemented that you'd swear it was never playtested....and knowing what we know now about CDPR, it probably wasn't. Visually it was barely passable even at release, and has so many unintuitive and overly complicated systems like crafting and potion-making that supposedly are really important to the game, but you'll likely get way too frustrated trying to decipher the nonsense to really get into it. The absolute worst part of the game, however, is the community. The fans are insane. Much like diehards of any community, The Witcher fanboys are some of the most toxic people out there. Just go through this review section. Notice all the glowing 5-star reviews and how they all have dozens of people upvoting them, while all the negative or just middling reviews have like 1 or 2 people even engaging with them. Odds are it'll happen here too. The community really doesn't like admitting that this game sucks really bad. The Witcher 2 is okay and 3 is allegedly really good(I didn't like the first two games enough to try the third one), but they will crucify anyone that talks negatively about any of these games or the franchise in general.

GOG canceled the release of the game Devotion to appease the CCP. Don't give them another dime of your money.

Coming from many FPS and TPS shooter/RPGs, I thought I knew what to expect. The reviews are great, looks a bit like Oblivion, or other earlier Bethesda games, so that's what I expected. Opened the game and tried to map my controls. Can't use spacebar in my standard control config... okay, I'll map it to a different key. Hmm, can't map mouse buttons? That sucks. Okay, I'll give it a try. Cinematics are soooooo long and boring, really sucky animation too. Like cringe worthy bad. Grass slicing straight through the cart as it goes along. Okay, I've played games with bad cinematics before. Still willing to give it a try. Skip cinematics, first battle, finally! Okay, it says opponents in red. Got it. Go next to a red circle. Umm how do I attack? Click madly for a few minutes on every key combo I can find while my comrades finish the battle for me. Well... maybe it's somebody's idea of fun, watching other people fight while you flail around madly. I thought this was the tutorial? It didn't tell me anything useful except I was moving my mouse too fast? I don't get how that's relevant, especially since changing the speed didn't seem to do anything. On top of all that the story is so thick with Fantasy tropes it doesn't even feel like an original game, more like a mod a bunch of 13 year olds made for Skyrim (with worse graphics and awful controls). Can't believe I spent money on this. How this has such a high rating is beyond me.

Bugs have ruined this game for me. It's a great game from the looks of it if only it would run properly. Crashes abound. The last one broke my interest. My machine which cost approx 2,000 dollars would not reboot at all after a lockup. I had to play with the USB connections for about an hour worried the game had done some timing mishaps on my devices. Turns out it was related to the SLI feature of my video cards. Clock mishaps on video cards = very bad. I won't run it again after that. Good thing it was only 5 bucks.

This is why we do not allow nonsense into our lives. Constant emphasis on brewing potions and crap. Game play is garbage. Nonstop story cut-scenes. Over emphasis on having several inventory slots, plus a skill tree based on uninteresting nonsense. It's stupid trash about killing demons but taking drugs alot and killing demons yourself. It's banal and stupid and the story is trash.
