That moment when it gets really fun

So, this game is kinda confusing at first. Well, thats probably my fault, because I tend to play more 2013 - foward RPGs, lol. Anyway, you start the game, and the fighting system is weird and confusing, and all the interactables are marked with a really silly notepad font. Also, when enemies die, they all turn into a weird bones and flash tiny mount that is AWAYS THE SAME. Thats not helpful with Id-ing at all. And Yet, best RPG I've ever played. There is a point in the game when you get used to this and really starts to enjoy it. It is just so immersive. The best parts are the ones when you have to walk through the scenario, listening to the life and the bg soundtrack, talking and mediating between every character. The missions also give you the option to choose how they end and who they will benefit. The levels of interaction between you and the various NPCs are very impressive. You can engage in various activities with them, and buid diferent relationships, depending on your choices. The music is really beatiful, the alchemy system is, at the same time, easy and dificcult to deal, the levelup system is moderately challenging, the inventory is, well the inventory. Just an inventory. Tips: press Alt (or is it Ctrl? nah its Alt) if you want to see all the things you can interact with in the area, and all people's names. And talk to EVERYONE. They can surprise you :)

A great RPG but perhaps not for everyone

There are many things that I like about this game. The story is interesting and so is its protagonist, Geralt of Rivia. The visuals while dated still look pretty good and there's a lot to explore in the world of Temeria. Unfortunately the combat system is not going to be enjoyed by everyone. It's flawed in many ways and might be boring to some since it consists of clicking a mouse button at a particular moment to create combo's and if an attack fails you'll have to start again. This basically repeats itself over and over again. Also prepare for a game that does little to explain what you have to do and where you need to go. There are no conveniently placed items to give you health. Instead, you need to obtain a formula for a health potion, find the necessary ingredients and then mix those at certain places where you can meditate in order to make it. The same can be said for many other features in the game. So if this does not sound like something you'll enjoy then most likely this game is not for you. If however these things sound intriguing to you then the Witcher offers a lot, a rich story and interesting characters, 40+ hours of gameplay, various items to find and achievements to unlock and more.

a lot more fun than expected

this game came for free because of gog reasons which i cannot recall, but i put off playing it until recently, as i felt it would be too "complicated". i was very wrong. i find the combat system fun and reasonably easy to master, the magic entertaining and the world fairly rich and varied. my only nitpicks are the story being a bit hard to follow while keeping track of far more concrete matters such as the ludicrous but engrossing inventory management, and the characters, well. the npc can be called colorful and straightforward (to not use the word simple), but our hero is just a bit too perfect of the fantasy hero-type (who also happens not only to be immune to illness BUT also sterile. and have white hair. and scary, cool cat eyes. etc). i just found it impossible to take him seriously, but in the end i just let go of that and had quite a few chuckles. i do not know how much i would have been ready to actually pay for it, but as it stands this was a very good deal, and got me considering buying the sequels.

The best atmosphere

This is one of these games where graphics don't matter. Of the three, the first one is IMO the most mysterious and dark. Audio combined with griddy graphics makes you feel like you're in slums, swamps and other unpleasant parts of the world. Completed it 5 times.
