A lightly flawed gem...
This is without a doubt one of the best, if not THE best fps/rpg I ever played. The main plot and most of the side quests are interesting. Graphic wise, assuming you have a high end cpu, graphic card, and loads of RAM, the game world is stupendous. The game is very feasible without cheating at normal difficulty level while a bit too much luck dependent to my taste. This however is largely compensated with the ability to save anytime you wish. On the negative side, be ready to experience numerous crashes and bugs specially when there are multiple characters interacting in the game world. Also, the combat system is quite obtuse and counter intuitive in that, during a fight, doing something when the game as decided it's not the time will result in your character quitting fighting and getting killed. Overall though, at GoG's price, you'd be crazy not to get this game if you like the genre.

Good and Bad---but mostly good
I'm torn: on one hand, one would be hard to say the story in The Witcher isn't engaging--fresh even, considering how differently the fantasy races are displayed. The game does, however, fall a bit short of grand, particularly in the rather boring combat sequences. The hero's movements are flashy enough, certainly, but it's all just one-button clicks through the whole thing. No decision making. No forethought. Nothing. Additionally, the voice acting is just awful, so much so that it creates a significant distraction from gameplay. Then again, the crafting system---potions, bombs, and oils---is one of the best I've ever seen in a game. Is it worth the price, yes. Will it be a game that I play over and over, no.

Performance issues ruin the story.
I received this game for free and I enjoy the story but that is about all. The game's combat is terrible, You never feel in control I'm sure the combat was good in its time but for today's standards, it just doesn't hold up, The game also doesn't perform well. You would think that a game this old wouldn't be hard to run but the game has a horrible micro stutter which I could not fix. Specs: Ryzen 5 1600 (3,2ghz) Gtx 1060 6gb 8gb ddr4 ram @2400mhz (2x4)

A fresh yet familiar take on RPG
The game has actually been waiting some 8 months for me to have a look at it. I made the purchase on the spurn of the moment, as it was on sale. I had heard a few times that the trilogy was made but apart from that I didn't look any info up in the net - being a die-hard Final Fantasy Fan is already demanding on free time reserves. Ultimately, it was my friend at work who got her Blood and Wine expansion for W3 for a birthday gift from her husband, who talked me into playing the original release. Our discussions prompted me to insttall the game and play. Being somewhat acquainted with the Witcher mythology I had a vague idea what to expect. Suffice to say that the prologue in Ker Mohren got me so involved that I would juggle save/load just to explore consequences of any action I took (most notably when given the option to fight the monster Frightener/Przeraza). Once past the prologue the story got me so involved that I immediately dropped two other games I'd been playing simultaneously at the time. There's everything an RPG freak would desire: a compelling story with numerous moral dilemmas (which made me sit looong hours), very good character development, combat and magic systems, spectacular alchemy system and the chance to be the badass Geralt I heard and read quite a lot about. The characters are palpable - they have motivation, ambitions, love/hate, sex and flirting. Btw. avoid pissing off red-head ladies in this game ;). It's much like in real life some 600 years ago. I don't mind some alterations in the story when compared to the books - that adds flavour to the game, especially the change made to Triss' story. It took me 1 month and 3 days to beat the game, while playing as though as possible without walkthroughs. Many quests are logically driven (like the autopsy) which is a delightfull change. I strongly recommend the Witcher EE to anyone who's into RPG. I always play the original language version. Playing the original Polish version was a delight.
