The beginning of a stunning series

The Witcher series had always been in the back of my head until I finally decided to play it. I've read a lot of positive feedback and having finished the first game a couple of days ago, I can say that all of it does the game justice. Graphics. While you definitely see the difference between the first Witcher and its sequels, the graphics are pretty neat. Sometimes the character animations are a bit clunky, especially during cutscenes, but the landscapes and character design itself make up for that. Battle System. Very interesting and relatively easy to master. Alchemy potions, bombs etc. add some variety, even though you can more or less easily kill the monsters without all those gimmicks on normal difficulty. I especially loved the group fighting style and I am definitely gonna miss it in the next Witcher games! Story. Definitely the main reason to play this game! Very intriguing storyline, the characters are believable and sophisticated. Witcher also doesn't fail to present some deeper conversations, be it in terms of philosophy, ethics or plain humour. But the moral dilemmas are probably the best part: often enough, there is no clear distinction between good or bad, it's just one choice or the other, which greatly influence the course of the game. Only downpoint for me were the side quests, as they can get rather boring/repetitive in the later chapters. So all in all, I'd definitely recommend to check out this game - I'm very glad that I did.

There is no better game than this!

Everybody should buy this game, it is simply the best game I have ever played. That's it. And play the sequels as well, great games, too.

A different game in a very good way

Ok, I will admit I didn't expect much out of this game when I first ran it. I had to invest some time to get the hang of the combat, as well as understand the alchemy system. I suppose you need time to immerse fully in the overall setting. After that you start to appreciate it. I would say this is a very BELIEVABLE game, though this being a strange word to be used in RPG context. The combat system is realistic - you either do series of successful hits, or suffer from such. You need to learn ingredients and monsters, formulas. You have to pay for this. The alchemy system is realistic as well. Drinking potions is limited by toxicity. You can't carry tons of weapons as most other games. Until certain point you can't even make unlimited amount of money (Which become pretty useless in many other games). Magic is something of which very few are capable of. You don't buy hundreds of spells just like that - you have few, and must choose wisely which to train. Everything you achieve is a result of hard work. This game doesn't hold your hand, you may fail a dozen of quests. The plot is intriguing, very mature. Of course there are flaws - dialogues could have been written better at some points in the game. First round of battle should have been less buggy, quests sometimes become unclear, you may lose yourself in the amount of things to do... That doesn't matter. You either love this game or hate it. I opt for the first - this is a unique experience and I absolutely recommend it.

A new plateau for gaming.

I never felt like being treated as an adult in gaming, until I played 'The Witcher'. Sure, there were other mindless escapades into adult territory, such as tasteless trash like GTA, but this game took my senses to a place I'd never been before. Yes, the game was rough here and there, the odd hick-up. broken quest lines and a little backstory brushing up required, but these little nitpicks pale into insignificance at the sheer grandure on offer. It was the first time I felt as though I may vomit at one of my decisions gone wrong. And the game simply bestowed its elegant shade of grey morality mechanic at my humiliated persona and flowed on, with nary a care in the world. This was Witcher land. No good. no evil. Just choice. And consequence. Remarkable in depth, size and scope, this was the game that took PC rpg's to the place they are in today. Where the good guys are bad. And the bad guys are far, far worse....... Cinema fans have not been educated in film until they've watched 'Citizen Kane, 'Seven Samurai', 'L'Atalante' and a hundred others. Well, to expand said point... You have not been educated in gaming until you have walked through the bleak lands of Temeria, as Geralt of Rivia. Or Geralt's two magnificent sequels. So to all who played this originally (As I did), I applaud you. And to those who haven't?! Well? What are you waiting for?

Plays on my 15 Year old PC at full 1080p

This game is great! This is an excellent RPG, that will fill your RPG bloodlust. The game is very pollished and runs very good (as I experienced) even on some VERY old hardware. Thanks to it being DRM free, I managed to not just install, but PLAY it on my classic PC (my very FIRST PC I ever personally owned). Running on a retro AMD Athlon XP 2200+ Model A Socket 462 CPU, a most likely bottlenecked EVGA GeForce 6200, Seasonic S12 II 430Watt PSU, 2GB of DDR1 3200 installed Dual-Channel RAM without any issues. The case is 80's/90's business white, runs on Windows XP Pro SP2, is cooled by 3 LED 80mm fans, sounds like a jet, and has dual 40GB IDE HDDs.... I managed to run at 30FPS at full 1920x1080p via DVI-I to HDMI on a 21:9 2560x1080p monitor with all settings on low. This game is darn optimized and is worth playing! I could even run it at 2560x1080p but Windows XP does not like ultrawide monitors :), and Witcher is not a slouch when it comes to graphics.
