a lot more fun than expected
this game came for free because of gog reasons which i cannot recall, but i put off playing it until recently, as i felt it would be too "complicated". i was very wrong. i find the combat system fun and reasonably easy to master, the magic entertaining and the world fairly rich and varied. my only nitpicks are the story being a bit hard to follow while keeping track of far more concrete matters such as the ludicrous but engrossing inventory management, and the characters, well. the npc can be called colorful and straightforward (to not use the word simple), but our hero is just a bit too perfect of the fantasy hero-type (who also happens not only to be immune to illness BUT also sterile. and have white hair. and scary, cool cat eyes. etc). i just found it impossible to take him seriously, but in the end i just let go of that and had quite a few chuckles. i do not know how much i would have been ready to actually pay for it, but as it stands this was a very good deal, and got me considering buying the sequels.

The best atmosphere
This is one of these games where graphics don't matter. Of the three, the first one is IMO the most mysterious and dark. Audio combined with griddy graphics makes you feel like you're in slums, swamps and other unpleasant parts of the world. Completed it 5 times.

Awesome game!
One of the best games I have ever played. The combat is good, story is fascinating. Certainly recommend it.

The books came alive
I will keep this review short and simple: When I first play this game I was totally swept away. From art direction, sound and finghting style this felt like the books, it totally looked like I imagined it while reading. Many will say that the fighting system is not good but for me it was better than say KOTOR. Here you have to react to surroundings, change sword styles approprietly. If you like RPG with characters who are closer to reality (no black and white view of the world), interesting story and would like to experience later games to their fullest potential, pick up this game and enjoy the wonderful gritty world od The Witcher.
