Description

Welcome to the mysterious Fern Island! A lush temperate isle home to three great magical cultures - Boran, Apatut, and Kuqkwa - including one bright-eyed newcomer, Abrill. After crashing onto the island during her travels to a magical academy, the young witch makes the most of the situation, still eager to become a full-fledged Witch. Instead of waiting idly for her arrival, the Academy of Witches also decided to use this as an opportunity for young Abrill to demonstrate her mastery of magic… And unveil the secrets of the mysterious island.

But know this: Becoming the Witch of Fern Island isn't just about passing exams! It's about finding your place in the world, making friends, and most importantly, finding joy within every passing moment.

  • Graduation means meeting the expectations of the Academy's Guardian Witch, and not by sitting through boring lectures. A witch learns on the job!
  • Grow herbs and (magical) plants, raise animals of unusual nature, and experiment with enchantments of plants and animals.
  • Develop Abrill’s own witch brand customizing her witch’s cottage as she sees fit through style and practicality.
  • Of course, a witch is not merely a farmer! Brew magical potions at the cottage, craft arcane amulets, summon cute and surprisingly helpful familiars, and eventually, perform complex rituals to channel raw magic to command the weather.
  • Did we mention that you’ll have the power to control your cat familiar?

  • Explore the island at any pace between crystal ball calls from the Academy.
  • Learn generations of magical arts here, and the witches’ stories accompanying them.
  • Traverse the Island on foot, from the saddle of an elegant Tzoru, or dart across it aboard a flying broom - once the Guardian is satisfied with Abrill’s progress, of course.
  • There's more than just history to find! Fern Island has been immersed in magic for centuries.
  • Learn more not just about the island’s past, but also its myriad of magical plants, animals, insects, and beautiful vistas.

  • A witch is not just a mistress of magic and an expert in all things arcane. She's also a part of the community!
  • Become immersed in the culture and society of the Boran, Apatut, and Kuqkwa to learn their traditions and beliefs, participate in festivals, and ultimately find true friends among dozens of people.
  • Uncover each new friend’s stories and secrets as Abrill solidifies herself as a part of the community
  • Extend out a caring hand with a witch's touch to assist the locals in their share of problems and leave a lasting impression on every individual to earn the title: The Witch of Fern Island!

Best game of this type I've played

've played a lot of farming / cottagecore games and this is the best so far!  What i've seen so far: This game has a gorgeous feel-good atmosphere The map is nicely sized so far, hopefully it will get larger The game doesn't try to force some obligatory repetitive chore-doing to be done every day, and you can feel more flexible and do whatever you feel like on any given day. You still have to keep an eye on things, but everything will not fall apart if you don't water the plants for a couple of days. Plus, the rain comes in - finally, a game with rain! - healthy occurrence. The rain! It makes for an awesome atmosphere aside from not having to water the plants every day. There are 2 levels of rain, plain, and thunderstorm. Stormy days are awesome, and super atmospheric!  This game brings more nuance to foraging and farming compared to the super simplistic thing usually done by other games. For example, the moon phase and / or humidity might affect things, such as mushroom growth or harvest.  And the seller won't restore and just sell you whatever's in season, you get to consult your calendar and pick the right stuff for the season yourself. Which is great, because this is a game in which you get to feel engaged to, not just mindlessly repeating movements.  The player gets to discover things such as which month a certain vegetable grows. - It's not all given, like in most other games of this kind.  The NPCs actually look like interesting people that you would meet in a small town, they don't look plastic. There are mounts in the game.

Good, but frustrating game

The game mostly looks like less pretty Stardew Valley and plays very similarly. Pros: Interesting story (so far) Interesting villagers characters Lot of place to explore Interesting gathering crafting system Cons: limited ways of earning gold you are unable to sell items anywhere else but your witch stall. you are only able to sell at max. 8 pieces of anything per night you are getting requests for things you don't know how to craft, or where to get them.

A nice game with a lot of problems.

The game seems poorly optimized, be prepared to see big frame drops the moment it starts to rain, and then even more when it starts to storm. The game can softlock at any time you talk to any NPC. Talking to lots of NPC's lots of times in order to not only do quest and progress the story but also to get your popularity up, which is the only way to make a consistent income, means this is a serious problem. But it gets worse, you cannot manually save this game without skipping time (ending your current day), so this problem becomes a real nightmare. Then there is the problem with picking up items from the game world, in a normal game all you would have to do is stand close enough to the item and click on it, but not in this game, in this game you also have to be facing your character model towards the item, this is rather annoying. But it gets worse, because your character model cannot spin on a dime, it instead has this weird slow turning motion while also moving, so if you want to pick up a item (which you will have to do for the majority of the game) but you overshoot the item you can't just turn around and get it, you have to walk a distance away from the item, then turn around, and then approach the item again, very frustrating. But it gets worse again, because some of the items have borked hit-boxes and trying to pick them up is asinine. And then there is item rarity, 4 levels of it, suffice to say inventory management in this game is a nightmare. Crafting stations also don't recognize items in chests. This is also one of those game where having a wiki open at all times is mandatory if you want to make any kind of progress. But for me the biggest flaw the game has is the magic, it is just so underwhelming, no effort went into it all all, you have no cool spells to toy with. There are only a handful of magical things you can do, like making it rain for a day, the rest is just pointless stats or a thing you have to do for a quest. Very disappointing.

Nice game so far

Let's not forget that this game is still in early acces, so... So far the game looks nice, bit on the cartoonish side. The island is pretty and big to explore. The story for what i saw after some hours is awesome. Gold like in many games is a thing, and there is only yet the witch-stand to earn some little money. It's long, and you can only sell few items/day. Lot to run and days are short. I can imagine that the witch broom will give a good change, but you need first the 1000 gold to get the blueprint. Other more serious problem i saw are the controls, set for azerty, and i'm unable to change the keys right now. Brackets to navigate the building menu don't work for me, so i'm kind of blocked right now. Hope we will get some change here !
