Very good adventure game :)

This game is really good, if you get annoyed by the voice of the character believe me after a while you will like it Good puzzles, great dialogs and conversations really funny and at the same time sad. Amazing art work and design for this game all is hand draw :) Not short at all and with a great story. What else can you ask?

A disappointing adventure

The Whispered World is an old school adventure in all good and bad. And unfortunetaly the bad manages to overshadow what is good about it. The biggest issues I got with the game is, that the puzzles need a logic that is not meant for human beigns. Many times I was roling my eyes, when progressing the game needed very absurd solutions. The game is pretty and it sounds good, despite the voice acting leaves a bit to be desired. In all, I found the game to be a disappointing experience.

Gorgeous, fun adventure... mostly

The Whispered World is possibly the most gorgeous adventure game ever created. The artwork is incredible, full of colour, detail, and beautifully fantastical. The quality of the animation is also top notch, and there are moments where you feel like you could be playing through a Studio Ghibli movie. Graphics aren't everything, though. While the game looks wonderful, it does lack heart and charm. The ingredients for a great adventure are there, but they never quite link up perfectly. The story begins to build up to something very interesting, but can't quite maintain the thrills all the way to the (weak) ending. A real let down is that the English voice acting is not good at all. The character you play, Sadwick, is probably the worst culprit - he sounds like an extremely whiney, depressed version of Steve Smith from American Dad (I initially thought Scott Grimes was providing Sadwick's voice). But most of the surrounding players are just as bad for different reasons: Sadwick's brother doesn't seem to understand how to speak sentences properly without accenting odd words. Gameplay-wise, it's just like a classic 90s adventure game. The puzzles are mostly not too hard, but there's a few strange ones in there. It's worth playing, but you may lose the will to continue all the way to the end.

flawed effort

An above average adventure held back by some fundamental design flaws and story decisions. The art is intricate and whimsical, although the characters are plain. It drives the story better than the story itself. The animation is solid and used throughout. The story is well paced, and the ending isn't rushed. But Sadwick, the whiny main character, will not win many fans. He's not even consistent; he swings between complaining about being an outcast and wanting to save the world at all costs. It doesn't work, not even as an artistic choice. Other voice actors sound like they are not native English speakers. On the plus side, the translation is strong, and a lot of subtle wit carries over. Sadwick's adventures are lacking as well. Population is sparse, even in areas teeming with hostile armies. His encounters are best viewed as allegorical fantasy, where one character is defined by working hard, another by greed, and another by self-assured cowardice. The tone is much closer to Syberia than The Longest Journey. The ending is not consistent enough with the story, and the final choice only allows one ending. There's also some of the worst pixel hunting I've ever seen, but there's a hotkey to show all the action spots. Use it to make the game considerably less frustrating. It's a mixed bag of a game. People who will enjoy it will see past the complaints in reviews, but if it doesn't sound appealing to you, playing it won't change your mind.

The worst protagonist ever

I really wanted to like this game. The graphics are beautiful, and I like various fables, fairy tales and the like so much, I thought this will be perfect. But then I met Sadwick. Oh my... this morose, perpetualy complaining runt is by far the most despicable protagonist I ever met in any video game. Always, at every step, with every click on every thing he whines. By Odin's beard, does he whine! Constantly. He is so emo It's not even funny. He makes Edward from Twilight look like Mr. Bean. And he has this terrible, weird voice, with a lisp, like a grown man trying to sound like a sad kid... it's terrible. It's kind of impossible to care about anything else- the story, the puzzles (rather convoluted ones, by the way, with little logic to them), because You don't want to play as Sadwick for a second longer. You don't want to see him win, You want to see him BURN.
