Better than season 2.

A spinoff of the telltale Waking Dead series, where you play as Michonne a character from the comics. This game is probably the closest in quality to season one that we will ever get. That is to say that the writing is way better than Season 2. The story, characters, and action is far more interesting than the crap we got in season 2. They should of made Michonne Clementine's new parental figure.

Make spoilers & stupid recaps skippable

I've played quite a lot of Telltale Games, and their refusal to give the player any control is frustrating. I could be talking about the often-limited choices in the games (scenes that won't progress until you interact with each item), but it is interface things that bug me more and more. I _hate_ the "coming in the next episode" crap. Not only are they pointless (why tell people what is coming next?) but they're full of spoilers and ruin the immersion. I have to snatch off my headphones and look away. Telltale - just make the damn things skippable, or don't include them, or add a settings option to disable them. It is not rocket science! Ditto with the "previously on..." recaps - insulting and patronising. I played the game (sometimes only seconds earlier), I can _remember_. I suspect the "next time" and recaps are just padding, since they fill minutes each short episode. Michonne adds an extra annoyance - a nag to create an account every single time you start the game. Combine that with no save option and no option to change the controls, and things that were originally minor irritations become huge annoyances over time. The interface is inconsistent too - sometimes you click in a circle to do an action, sometimes you have to click on an option outside it. It's as if Telltale want to get in the way of the stories. There are other issues, more minor. - I read the graphic novels, and they never explained why Michonne leaves after the fight with Negan. I'd heard the game explains that, but it doesn't. It begins after she'd already left, so that still isn't answered. - Continuity errors: one moment Michonne is covered in blood; she's tied up; the blood is gone in the next scene. Same with Randall, who has a bloody face in one scene and is tied up; the blood is gone in the next; then it reappears after that. I also noticed characters disappear as they walked past a window pane. - Partway through chapter two the game stopped and seemed to go back to the (unskippable, again) credits sequence. I assumed it had crashed and reset. It turns out Telltale did it on purpose, because they did it in chapter 3 too. But the main annoyance is the unskippable spoilers and recaps. I still find it hard to believe Telltale think that's a good idea. It's enough to leave me annoyed after a session with one of their games, and it is so easy for them to fix (future and - retrospectively - past games).

A Glorified Interactive Movie

I enjoyed the narrative a lot for this. Partly because I enjoy Michonne’s character on the TV series but also because Michonne is just outright badass regardless. This game does a pretty good job of conveying that. Choices are still pretty bad for the sheer reason that it’s there as an illusion. There are definitely consequences to some of your choices but where the choices feel like they should matter, are the choices which ultimately lead to the same outcome regardless of what you picked. Gameplay is lacking, as is always expected with Point & Click. There’re moments where you’re somewhat free to walk around & explore but for whatever reason, the direction your moving the analogue stick is the opposite direction Michonne goes. Worse yet, Telltale haven’t improved on their formula still. The whole thing feels like an interactive movie. The lack of control you have over everything is abysmal & jarring. It actually makes you wish this was just an animation because the gameplay ends up being more of a distraction than anything of substance. Visually the game looks great, but the lack of mo-cap animations/voice acting starts to break a some of the immersion. It looks like the characters are moving their mouths & different words are coming out. However, graphics are nice & sharp, given the art style. Otherwise, despite its flaws, it’s a definitely worth a playthrough if you can get the thing on sale. Took me 4 hours to finish & I found myself wanting more out Michonne’s story.

Sweet but too short, EP.1 review

Very enjoyable and tense atmosphere, good action sequences too. The beginning is strong and will feel familiar to fans of the previous Walking Dead games, I was hooked early on. The problem is it's over all too quickly. It took me about an hour to complete, and the last part was mostly all dialogue with no exploration. It felt rushed. There are some interesting characters but you never get the chance to know much about them. At this point it's hard to recommend the game. Hopefully the next installments will be more fleshed out. Makes me wonder if they sold the game as a whole knowing people might not buy the next 2 episodes based on this one. I would say hold off until episode 2 comes out at least. Maybe they should have just released the whole game when it was complete instead of in parts. All that aside what was there was enjoyable, and I am hoping the next 2 installments will not disappoint. It's hard to review 1 piece of a game without knowing the whole.

Stupid writing with dumb character arcs.

Michonne from the outset has zero reason to help a certain person who put her into a very bad life of death situation for no valid reason at all. I just couldn't believe in her motivation for going above and beyond the call. I don't even get why this was even made other than Michonne was a popular character currently in the show, but this is comic book Michonne not the Michonne in the show, right? The words cash and grab come to mind, oh well.
