Description
Thus begins your adventure within the Realm of Greyhawk. It is an adventure that will lead to the source of a deep and abiding mystery, to the very core of evil itself.

An evil demoness founded a cult dedicated to exploring evil in its most elemental forms. This cult was based in a temple just outside the village of Hommlet in a vile shire known as Nulb. Soon, this cult rose to rule the region with tyranny and grim times of chaos and violence ensued. Hard-fought battles were waged and the war was eventually won by the good armies of nearby lands. The temple was razed, the villains were imprisoned, and order was restored. The temple itself faded into distant memory. Until now...

It's okay.

As far as Obsidian titles go this one is not the cream of the crop, but it's definitely playable and the combat is reasonably fun.

It would be great... but

It won't install properly seems to be a lot of people having this problem. I sent a message to support, but they won't answer me. I would wait on this one till they fix it.

A poor attempt at a Bioware clone

I tried to like this game, but it's definitely not a Bladur's Gate or Icewind Dale. The primary issue is that the game uses its own version of the 3.5 rules that make no sense. I've come across bugbears with greatswords that get automatic attacks of opportunity, even if you're already in melee and attempt to hit them. Click on attack, and you just might get hit with a 40 point critical hit, even if they just attacked you the previous segment. Second issue: pathing. The pathing in this game can be horrible; sometimes only part of the party will find their way down to where you clicked. Other times, and this is evident in most of the games of this style, they'll take a very long way around to get where you want them to. All in all, an interesting attempt but, after many hours of game play, I think it just isn't worth it.

SO OLD! A module from the D&D time capsule!

Ok- lots of other reviews here to read- I'll be brief. This combat system differs from the Baldur's gate series- it has this little wheel that emanates from your character and gets bigger the more choices your character has. Old fans of BG seem to have a hard time getting the hang of that- and complain endlessly about it. Truth be told- this new way of plotting your character's moves is waaaay better once you get used to it. It has a learning curve, but trust me- by the end of the game you will probably say that they should use that method in other games of this type- it makes play faster, hence more enjoyable. The D&D module, TOE was written by Gary Gygax- the founder, creator and father of D&D. HOWEVER- it kinda sucks. It's obviously like one of the first modules GG ever designed. It has the old, 'go around the town and get clues to discover where to go and what to do next' kinda thing- which is a device game creators use to waste your time and beef up the playable hours of the game- let's face it- that just sucks in a video game- but remember this was an *actual D&D module. IF you know who Lolth is, she is in the end of the game. Yes, that's right- Lolth is in there- and she will mess you up bad if she actually sees you. When I played it through, I was able to kill her without her actually seeing me- because I was hidden behind a curtain behind her throne. You heard me right. So the ending of this game can be stoooopid. To the point of where you are saying, 'are you kidding me?'. And anyone that knows D&D knows that you don't just run into Lolth, kicking it on the prime material plane...you see where I'm going with this. In my opinion, the game was a lot of fun- despite all the BS you have to do to level up- because some of the battles were just really cool and fun- I attribute this to the combat system which I explained above. When your thief starts really kicking butt and stabbing people in the back consistently, it's a buttload of fun. Just remember what I said- the ending sucks balls. It would have been nice if they made sequels to this game- but a little better thought out- story-wise. Above all else, if you are a fan of these types of games- you must play this one- it is a classic tribute to Gary Gygax (RIP).

Will the game stop halting and failing

I remember this game when I was younger, which is why I bought this in the first place. But on a 32bit win 7 system, it hangs frequently, to the point I had to install the Circle of 8 fan patch. But it still stops and hangs every now and then. After a week of trying to play the game, I give up. It crashes too often. I believe it is my Win 7 32 bit system that could be the problem. Maybe it needs a Win 10 or maybe it needs a 64bit system. I'm rating this as 2 stars because I remember liking it fine when I was a lad. I have no idea what to do with this now. Maybe I'll reinstall it later when I get a new PC. I wish I bought something else instead.
