This is the FULL release of Saya no Uta

Often touted as a classic "must read" horror VN, here it is in it's full glory. It's pretty short at around 6 hours tops, and it shows it's age a bit. It plays in 4:3, so expect black borders. The visuals are adequate, and can be disturbing (as is the whole game.) The soundtrack REALLY sets the mood, and is a big part of what carries the story. Is it scary? Well, more like disgusting and tense, with a slow burn atmosphere. You'll question yourself a bit at the end, and that personal psychoanalysis is up to you. No real jump scares. Over all, I feel like it was fairly well written. While there is a small amount of sexual content (some of which is non consensual, which is a big no no for me), to me it felt out of place. If that kind of thing isn't for you, consider the Steam version as it is censored. There's only a couple of routes, and I leave it up to you to decide which ending is the best. It's all in perspective, I guess. I'm going to give this a recommend, but only if you aren't in a bad place in your life.

Gruesome, Twisted and Beautiful

Review as someone who play his first Visual Novel. A great VN for sure. It has all the horror elements of what real people seek of horror instead of a cheap 1 second scare. It needs time to make you actually scared; slow and steady. Yes, it has porn in it, I was really uncomfortable with it the first time it showed up, You'll get used to it by time, but it gets much, much worse after the first time. The context is what matters. It's wonderfully written, it drives you by this insane ride with an incredible amount of detail. The images and music carries a lot of weight too, serves as a stimulation. The art is disturbing, yet relaxing when it needs to, same goes for the music. It might say it had some unnecesesary porn scenes at first, but now thinking more about it I think it adds to the twisted nature of it. It's not a game for everyone. But it's a experience I've never felt before, my imagination went wild as I read every sentence of this game. Buy it, for the experience. It's a depressing ride were no one wins and it gets worse by time. I need more games like these.

good with one flaw

this game is one of the seminal VN of modern horror VN and it's just as good as the pirated fan translated version i played years ago (Sorry JAST, i made it right this time), even better translation than last and higher res art too! this is a horror eroge that goes to all the extremes of that, it's fine for me but for others it might go too far, so you've been warned. the art and sound are amazing but the game is rather short and very kinetic - a playthrough might have just 3 choices now for the big actual flaw - whether the game hates the GOG Galaxy overlay or something is borked, it will absolutely not run under Galaxy on Win11, you have to go to the game directory and run the exe to play it. A slight annoyance but not the end of the world Still a classic through and through. if you like f'd up horror vns, play today.

A game of all time, partly overrated

I "enjoyed" my time playing but the the amount of people that say that this is the "Darkest" VN out there are actually capping. I don't say this trying to sound edgy anything like that but it is objectively not as crazy as people make it out to be. The literal descriptions and breakdowns of this VN are scarier sounding that what the story actually entails. Side note, I keep seeing YT videos of people being like "Saya No Uta Ruined My Life" or "The Darkest Visual Novel Ever!", like really? A visual novel is what ruined your life? I get it, they do it for the sake of getting more clicks but this is just a Psychological VN with quite a bit of Gore in it. If you're looking for something that's heavier on the adult topics then go on ahead for this one, I found it alright but it was it worth the money I spent $14.99 (RM60+)? No, I'm sorry- it wasn't
