The Shivah

An extremely short game with some obscure puzzles (Figuring out what password a character would set for their computer type of thing), I'd pick it up on sale not full price, was an enjoyable diversion for less than 2 hours.

You can expect quite a good, but very short adventure-experience. The story is told in ernest, the main character has quite some depth and you may enjoy a atmosphere filled with melancholy. The fights remember the good old days of Monkey Island and are really a highlight of the game. On the other hand, there are very few puzzles and it will be over after 3-4 hours. Puzzles like "combine A with B" are missing completely. The grafic is outdated, but charming, if you like it retro (and you do, beeing here on GOG, true? ;)). If you look at it like an interactive movie, than you will really like this game.

I was getting into this, but then it up and ended! Still enjoyable though.

This game is simply amazing. It's subject matter is different from anything else out there, adventure game wise. If people want to talk about innovation in Adventure Gaming - and being original, The Shivah takes the cake. Solid story, solid characters. Interesting methods of detection. Highly recommend.

If you're uncertain about paying a few dollars for this game, you could always try the demo... wait, there's a demo? For a 1.5 hour game? But seriously, this is a game with a mature plot that touches existentialism, losing faith and what it means to be a Jew. Even though the game is short and a bit rough around the edges (even with the remastered edition) I think it's worth the few dollars Dave Gilbert is asking for. Also, what's with point 'n' click adventure game designers sharing the surname "Gilbert"?
