That one didn't age well
Oh my, I bought it due to nostalgia factor and I am disapponted to say the least. I get it, it's and old game, so it may not be pretty, but this one is painful to look at and work with. We can say there are oldschool games and outdated ones. Settlers 2 is oldschool that I play to this day. This one is outdated.

best settlers ever made
Cant be compared with settlers 2 of course (personally, I really don’t like the way system in settlers 2 because it seriously takes your freedom), but this game started a whole new era. The balancing of this game is almost perfect; therefore it is just purely made for multiplayer gaming and fighting big battles. Even after more than 15 years, there is still a considerably large community which can be found within the new “alternative lobby” every day. There are several community based fixes for this game. With this fixes, settlers 3 can be played with every windows version. Just see link below (german) http://www.siedlercommunity.de/siedler3/windows/
