Pure Simple Fun!
I've never been big on RTS games. Always thought they seemed more work than fun.. Then I tried out The Settlers II 10th Anniversary one day, and it was great! I still think my thoughts on RTS still apply nowadays though, but this game is a real exception.

It works... but is that enough?
It's just beyond my understanding how ALL of the Settlers games managed to be inferior compared to the very first one. Ignoring how uncanny, boring and confusing this 3D rendered version of Settlers 2 looks, even the original Settlers 2 did not have huge random maps that can be loop-scrolled in all directions like the first one. The AI in Settlers 1 was the most challenging and fun to play against, but with Settlers 2 the AI was just way too stupid, and while I think the AI is improved in this remaster, it's still not very challenging to beat. I think 3 stars is fair for this game since it does its job but leaves me disappointed regardless. I have not discovered major bugs and the mechanics work as they should. With better art direction and being a faithful remaster of the first game instead this could have been a huge classic, but no.
