Description

The Pegasus Expedition is a story-driven sci-fi grand strategy game set in a key moment for humankind’s survival. Facing an overwhelming threat at home, humanity sends an expedition to the Pegasus Galaxy in a desperate attempt to find a refuge for the population of Earth, only to find themselves in the middle of an interstellar war they inadvertently started.

As you lead one of these fleets, your mission soon transitions from exploration to governance, conquest, and eventually a fight for survival. Players will experience a challenging story where nothing is self-evident and every decision will have its consequences.

Building on the legacy of the grand strategy genre, The Pegasus Expedition adds a strong narrative side to the classic 4X-gameplay which involves managing your diplomatic ties, armies, economy and scientific development.

A story driven 4X-game

The Pegasus Expedition is a story driven grand strategy game which focuses on combining an epic sci-fi narrative with a solid 4X foundation to create a very unique narrative strategy game experience. Your decisions and actions shape the galaxy around you, with every alliance and crisis you suffer or cause leaving their mark.

The Council

As the Director of Zeus Link fleet, you control all aspects of the Zeus Link, making all of your critical decisions with your council; the group of your closest subordinates and advisors. They will inform you of the new developments in the galaxy, and do their part in solving the numerous crises and incidents you will have to resolve, one way or another.

Economy

You will start out with only your seasoned but thin expeditionary fleet, and you will need to develop a functioning economy fast to keep the Expedition going. After all, you will be supplied from home for only so long.

Diplomacy in a Torn Galaxy

The Pegasus Galaxy is full of independent factions, with their own grudges, rivalries and fragile alliances, so you’ll need to navigate this diplomatic landscape with care in order to succeed. That will involve both making dynamic deals and treaties in the diplomacy system, as well as making tough choices in dialogue. After all, you are a suspicious and despised newcomer in this galaxy, with limited time and huge expectations to accomplish.

Manage your Fleets and Officers

To survive in this new and often hostile galaxy, it’s extremely important to keep your forces improving and your leaders trained. You will have to work with limited human resources, and choosing the right person for the right job can often make the difference. Assign admirals, governors and special forces operatives to help you to victory.

Stellar Warfare

War never really changes, and the Pegasus galaxy has a lot of it to offer. Choose your strategies and plan your battles well, as in the Pegasus Expedition’s unique combat, careful planning is everything. Espionage and the well thought out movement of your forces will be crucial in war, in order to have your fleets at the right place at the right time.

Technology

In the future, there’s an even shinier future ahead. There are great discoveries to be made, and many things, great and less great, that you can do using those discoveries. To have a chance against your foes, you'll need to be one step ahead of them in technology too, and not just in strategy.

Fight Against the Ever Worsening Odds

Your starting situation is not an easy one... And it’s only going to get worse. The longer the expedition continues, the higher the stakes, with new threats, enemies, backstabbers and heroic resistance movements. Everything to keep the campaign dynamic, interesting, and challenging to the very end. With a plenty of characters, sidequests and twists and turns to the campaign, the dynamic Pegasus Galaxy will present new challenges to face that will keep you on your toes.

Next step in 4X

I really enjoyed it due to: * story driven approach, * music/ost, * and adequate yet solid mechanics. My campaign was unfinished due to a plenitude of bugs, but it satisfied my X4 needs regardless. The OST carries this game through the very nicely designed visual novel like elements of the story behind the campaign. The EU heavy approach is a nice change, something new. Adam Al-Sawad's music, especially The High Courts track, puts together with the story elements a sense of time pressure throughout most of the campaign. It would be great to see more of this story driven approach in 4X games altogether and keep having reminders what the big picture is about. Here the developers put something really nice together without animations, cut-scenes and voice over. The OST is very well fitting, despite not being very varied, it carries the game nicely throughout even in longer sessions. Really, hats off to the composer. The High Courts track has so many elements of getting it right and creating the right atmosphere for the game, same as Solace in Desolation and Our Last Cradle. Game itself is a solid 4X, but not a MOO2. The art style is quite nice, graphics are good enough. Loading times and transition between game views could be an issue. UI needs more polishing. There is a lot of useless clicking around, not all access to systems makes sense (I can switch between star systems while previewing planet's infrastructure, then have to switch between last system's planets to get an updated view, stuff like that) Bugs and being unpolished are real issue with this game: * gameplay mechanics don't synchronize, hence my unfinished campaign (one ally got stuck in allied status despite reputation being 0, I couldn't finish building the portal elements, despite building 12+ of them), * there are some information texts missing, such as unique buildings, * bad balance. I would still recommend this, it's a solid attempt and combining visual novel with 4X that is quite well done.

Non-playable

This game has a game-breaking bug where you cannot continue playing past a point in the storyline. Sad, but true.

I really tried... but I could not.

Spacefaring opera? Mankind's survival at its finest hour? Moral crisis? All this in a 4X grand strategy game? COUNT ME IN! That's what I THOUGHT when I bought the game. And here I am, sadly, having to write a 2 star review to it... I am not even doing this out of spite, like in Ci*****ation 7 (such crap, Jesus). Let's begin. 1) The story started strong, but is falls short of everything really quickly. The characters are not compelling, the plot gets too generic without the adequate depth and in the end it just feels like an excuse to say "hey we got a campaign mode", 2) The soundtrack was good at the beginning, too, but then, also, it gets repetitive: not a lot of variety and very short repertoire. 3) The UI is bad. Really bad. At first (like everything in this game, damn, what a good first impression and what a HUGE disappointment) it looks polished, simple, effective... but no. It is just bad. Lacking in crucial information (where is the detailed breakdown of my mineral income?), uncomfortable for many things (why can't I quickly scroll on my systems from the planet view) and many other small things that keep piling up. 4) Learning the game through trial and error can be fun sometimes, but not this time. You need to plan, so you need to learn first. Mechanics and rules are progressively explained until... poof. No more explanation. No more tutorial and no more encyclopedia. There IS an ingame manual although you cannot zoom in to read some of the important explicative pictures. 5) Probably the most important thing: gameplay itself. The battles seem extremely random sometimes. Lots of tactical options but in the end it's just: NUCLEARS OR NOT? Colonies are not complex at all. Just fill the slots, spam buildings and there you have it. Many other things but I run out of space for the review, it seems there is a character limit. There is no grand and there is no strategy. The saddest thing of all: I could not stop thinking about playing Stellaris again.

4X-Grand Strategy in space, with plot.

This game is essentially a less visually impressive version of Stellaris, and I'm here for it and I love it. I only wish it had a better soundtrack, more content, and a little bit more tactical variation.

Fun, Unique and addictive

Many reviews talk about bugs and the such but i've yet to encounter any. Unique story feel and addictive campain for 4k grand stratag that keeps you pressing on. Only played main campain so far on hard but it truly feels like against all odds. You are the invader, you will struggle to keep your fleets in order while managing crises and attempting to save sol while building an empire. You Likely will have to decide when to nuke the enemy fleets and planets or to enact more drastic policies for resources and population control. When you think you are starting to achieve stability there will be unforseen threats. I will stop there. If you are like me and find most 4k grand strategy to get monotonus after a bit and usually end up modding and tweaking the files give this one a shot, especially on a higher difficulty setting.
