Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the colony. Explore the various planets and locations of Halcyon, including the mysterious Gorgon Asteroid and delightful distilleries of Eridanos. As you encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is a weird release. While Xbox owns the developer, Private Division still retains the distribution rights to the first game. Which means the normal free upgrade is not here. Instead we have the definitive version of a great game locked behind some weird monetary decisions. If you never played the original, this is by far the best package available. If you did and are looking to upgrade what is here is nice, but not worth another $60. If you own all the DLC this is a solid $10 upgrade. Still I wish it was more accessible or at least a save transfer existed. It taints an otherwise solid release.

The Outer Worlds is an awesome game, so it's nice to have the option to enjoy it with all the amenities of a new generation of hardware. While the performance is a bit iffy, the visuals really pop, and the updated character models add to your immersion in this imaginative space adventure. It's no surprise we've got a second one on the way, and now you can get ready for the sequel on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in style.

For sheer memorable and engaging gameplay, I recommend The Outer Worlds. It was an absolute delight to play back in 2019, and it still holds up as one of my all-time favorite gaming experiences. I am pleased with the graphical upgrades and enhancements from The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. Although, with less new content and more new bugs, it should have been a free upgrade for returning players

Ignore the old reviews, game runs fine

Yeah, I get it, the game was a disaster at launch. But as of 03/25/24, it's smooth sailing on my PC. No more glitches, crashes or stutters and I'm maxing out on Ultra settings at a cool 120fps. Don't even bother with the original version. Spacer's Choice is the real deal after all the fixes and updates. The game is incredibly stable, and I've yet to encounter any bugs. Old reviews don't do it justice; people should really give this game another chance. While it may not reach the heights of New Vegas, it's certainly much better than Starfield.

Launch issues resolved, it's solid now

The vast majority of the initial issues with Spacer's Choice edition have been resolved and the game runs and plays fine now (Jan 2024). It's The Outer Worlds, just with enhanced visuals (better is subjective - nights on Monarch are horrible) and some fixes. Also seems to run a bit better than the original title, in its current state. Won't win any game of the decade prizes - story is serviceable, humour is decent, gameplay is alright and the included DLCs add some more things to do and places to explore. Replayability value... there is some, but not like certain other games. All in all, it's a decent game that doesn't exactly excel at anything. If you want to explore a space/sci-fi universe with some elements that may make one think of Fallout NV (though definitely not as good), give it a try. As the slogan says, it's not the best choice, it's Spacer's Choice!

Don't buy

this "new edition" could have been easily just a patch to the original game but the stupid go beyond that just imagine every time they want to send an update to fix so stuff or tweak others or for any other reason they send you the whole game all over again (around 50gb) (4 times so far) what a joke?

Don't buy this version of the game

Full transparency, I played this version of the game on Epic because it was given away for free, I always wanted to try out this game and the Spacer's Choice Edition left me disappointed. I spent a a little bit over 2 hours trying to enjoy this version of the game, but the constant framerate issues, textures not loading properly and constant stutters made me uninstall the game. I then installed the original release of the game that was also given away for free by Prime Gaming, around the same time, just to see if this version had any issues, at the exact same graphic settings, installed on the same SSD, the game runs fine, zero issues, I was able to quickly progress through the game up to where I was on this release. If you really want to spend your money on this game, buy the original release, see if you like it, then maybe buy the DLCs if you enjoyed the game, do not buy this release, it will, most likely, never get updated because it was quickly put together and released without the involvement of the original developers, to try to cash as much money as the publisher could get before losing the rights to the IP.
