Description
Includes all 4 episodes of The Lion’s Song

The Lion’s Song is a narrative adventure game series about creativity and its demons, with each of the first three episodes taking a closer look at a fictional Austrian artist or scientist. Steeped in culturally vibrant 20th century history, the game lets players travel back in time and gives them an intimate insight into the creative struggle of the young composer Wilma, the haunted painter Franz, and the genius mathematician Emma. The season’s finale, Episode 4 - Closure, will take players on a mysterious train journey that connects the storylines of all previous episodes. What stories will these four strangers share along the way, and where will their journey end?

The choices players make in The Lion’s Song will have a direct impact on the storylines of all future episodes and ultimately determine if the protagonists do find the success they are working for.

Interesting but predictable

First off - the music and art of this game are absolutely stunning. I found myself loving each and every panel. Secondly - the way the story is written and the way it ties together in each chapter is beautiful. Thirdly - The storytelling of the game is great, and the characters they chose to highlight were interesting in their own unique way. So why 3 stars? The gameplay. It's REAllllllyyy monotonous and incredibly linear. There's not really any mess ups - and yes there are choices, but they don't really effec the story lines that much. In some areas it's really obvious what choices will get you what you want, in others it's not very clear at all. This game had a lot of potential to be a lot more interactive and set you up for a bit more of a dynamic gameplay and just fell really short. If you're wanting something that feels like an interactive story - this game is certainly for you! If you're wanting something to fill the time - this game is for you. If you're wanting something mind numbing and yet captivating - this game is for you. If you're wanting something challenging, stimulating, and intriguing - move on to something else.

Fantastic Story

I was a bit hesitant about The Lion’s Song because I don’t always enjoy point and click games. Lucky for me it’s a narrative game not a puzzle game. The difference being that you aren’t spending your time trying to find keys or figure out the order in which to press buttons. Instead you will be advancing the story through dialogue choices with the odd time where you will have to figure out a correct answer to proceed but it is never difficult. The story was fantastic and really tied together nicely by the end. You will follow a different protagonist each chapter and in the final chapter will see how their stories tied together and concluded. Each chapter you usually get to interact with one of the other characters showing you a different perspective of their story. The audio was very well done as well, I could listen to the soundtrack any time. The game doesn’t have any voice acting but I don’t mind that. I would rather no voice acting than bad voice acting. I played the game on Linux. It didn’t crash on my once. I noticed no glitches or bugs. I played version 421_20576. There were no graphics options at all. It is a pixel graphics style game so it was never going to look modern but it would have still been nice to have the option to sharpen it up a bit with AA or something. The game doesn’t support manual saving but luckily the checkpoints aren’t very far apart and are clearly marked. The game never lagged on me at all and didn’t need much horsepower. It used typically 1-2% of my CPU and while playing my system used about 1.5GB of RAM total. Alt-Tab worked fine with the game. I recommend The Lion’s Song to anyone seeking a good story. You owe it to yourself to at least check out he first episode which is free on Steam. Each episode takes about an hour to complete, a bit less or more depending on the player. I paid $13.99 CAD for the complete season but would easily say it is worth $25.

Amazing

Such a beautiful game, with a great storyline. Just what I needed, staying at home, being ill. Story about making changes in the world, about courage and finding yourself. You get to experience a turning-point in a protagonist life, and each episode has a different leading character. I loved that game touched some matters connected with creation of art. Also the game itself is such an atmospheric and beautiful pixel art. I enjoyed the experience, and felt really inspired afterwards.

An Incredibly Moving Drama

This is an extremely meaningful adventure. Beautiful pixel art realization and music. Thematically reminiscent of what The Last Express was telling us, but not a world-simulation as was Jordan Mechner's masterpiece. Instead, this is a purely narrative experience. The player is not solving a mystery in the world, but figuring out how the lives of the four protagonists will intertwine, and there are several possible outcomes. Each chapter tells the story of the critical moment in each person's life as the society around them is careening into the chaos of early 20th century nationalism. The puzzles are indeed the characters themselves, who come to live more outside of the game in your imagination. The critical decisions are few and on rails, but the goal is to guide these strangers' relationships toward their destinies and places in history. Few games are as mature and ambitious in their exploration of the human soul. I love this game. I think it's one of the top art games of the 21st century so far. For readers looking for an action title, this is not that kind of game. It's an interactive indie historical character study.
