Description
Among the nations on the Zemurian continent, the mighty Erebonian Empire has been quick to outwardly stake its claim militarily; yet politically, ugly bouts of internal conflict between the upper class and commoners attempting to rise to power have been steadily intensifying day by day. The Noble and Reformist Factions have been none too kind to one another over the years, and tensions between the two only stand to worsen if compromises aren’t made in the very near future.

Rean Schwarzer, like any other citizen of the Imperial Nation, is no stranger to these rising conflicts: the class system has been deeply embedded into the hearts of every Erebonian since the days of old. As a seventeen-year-old student preparing for his new life at Thors Military Academy, however, he notices that his crimson uniform differs from the standard ones issued to his peers—typically green for commoners, and white for nobles.

Enter, Class VII of Thors Military Academy. For the first time in the prestigious academy’s history, rank means nothing and skill means everything. With nine hand-picked students of various backgrounds and abilities, Rean included, Class VII readies itself to dive deep into the political quagmire that threatens not only them, but the Empire as a whole.

Taking place on the same continent as the fan favorite Trails in the Sky offshoot of Nihon Falcom’s storied The Legend of Heroes franchise, Trails of Cold Steel (Sen no Kiseki in Japanese) is the first in the series to tread Erebonian soil and explore the inner political conflicts of this oft-mentioned powerhouse nation in detail. Delve into the expansive lore that has become synonymous with the series, enjoy school life and bond with fellow students to earn new abilities in battle, take advantage of speedy, tactical turn-based combat with the newly-developed “ARCUS” system, and uncover dramatic events that stand to change everything these two opposing social classes stand for.
  • A World Rich in Depth for Veterans and Newcomers Alike
The events of Trails of Cold Steel are expertly told so that longtime Trails veterans and casual RPG fans alike can equally enjoy its detailed, highly nuanced storyline.

  • New Link System Adds Depth to Combat
Take advantage of the Combat Link System by bonding with your allies throughout the school year, netting you a variety of combat benefits including healing, guarding and more.

  • A Sleek Update to a Classic Growth Mechanic
Trails of Cold Steel streamlines the classic “Orbment” magic system from previous titles with new “ARCUS” units, allowing for more ready access to abilities and quicker customization.

  • Experience the Game as Never Before
50% more lines of English voice-overs have been added to the PC release, bringing a fresh experience to even those who have played it before on console.

Great game. But weakest of the series.

This is a potential starting point for new people. It teaches about the world and characters without you having to have played prior entries. If you like it you can go back and play the older ones. It's exciting by the end but its a slow relaxing pace leading up to it. It ends on a cliff hanger requiring you to play Cold Steel 2. The cast is too large to do them all justice. But even the weakest Trails game is still great. I recommend looking up the SenPatcher online to add some quality of life improvements and fixes to the game. There is also an HD texture pack you can apply that is worth it.

At last after years.

I became a Trails series fan few years ago with Trails in the Skies FC and SC, and after playing Crossbell duology, I was enchanted by trails' world buiding indeed. It is time to play cold steel games at once.

Highly recommend for fans of the JRPG.

So, the "Cold Steel" games have been released across several platforms, the pc release however is superior to its previous incarnations in a few "aesthetically" noticeable ways. The most noticeable improvement, like with most multi platform games, is the fps. This game is capable of running at a consistent 60 fps, and in comparison to the original ps3 release, one can notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps while playing. Graphically, the textures in the game appear smoother as well, that is, while running the game on its maximum video settings. Beyond aesthetics, the game stays true to the roots of the JRPG genre; a turned based battle system, with a few extra twists included, which keeps the game play diverse enough, that you don't feel as if your playing just another "snes" styled rpg. Another thing worthy of noting, is unlike many other modern JRPGS, this one allows you to go inside an abundance buildings. Others from this decade kept the ability to enter a building's interior to a bare minimum. Beyond that, there's not much else to add, I heard a lot of good things about this series, so I gave it a try and I like what I've played thus far.

A game of the Century for me.

Trails Of Cold Steel Is The masterpiece Of the 40 years of Falcom's game craftsmanship business. From the killer introduction to the city of Trista. It truly does a great job introducing you to the highly complex people you'll be spending time with over the cause of many hours. It's a very much visceral close and personal. I've certainly grown to some of the many personally I had the of meeting and about in. After You've played the most flexible, fast-paced focused and yet tried and true critically-acclaimed combat for hours upon hours you find yourself experience the Most Epic Boss battle that left in tears. It's battle of a life time. I might be overselling it's praises in terms of writing compared to something like Trails in the Sky, of Trails from Zero, But I really mean it when I say this stand-alone video game holds up well. If you want something even better Trails from Zero (provided You played all of Trails in the Sky before hand) it's just a great game.

Great game, but a little too generic.

This may be a bit heavy on the anime tropes as far as characters go, but it's a good game with a good story, even if you will probably see the twist coming a mile away. Plays well, with all the settings cranked up to 11, on a four year old laptop. While it's not the Trails in the Sky level of "It'll play on a potato, and not even a very fresh one at that" this game will probably run fine for you on just about anything you would even consider gaming on. The relationship/bonding system is a bit weak, which is sad considering it has some pretty interesting characters that you want to get to know a little better but the personal stories seem like they take a back seat to the MC and his general infalable likability. That is actually where it loses a star, the bonding scenes you have a limited number of chances to experience are what flesh out the game, and needing to choose a set number on each "free day" takes away from the game in my opinion. Honestly, I like Trails in the Sky (and some if the Ys series, better than ToCS1&2, but they're both still great games and totally worth it despite not being the strongest entry in a long running well written series. From playing the whole series it kinda feels like this was an attempt to make a more generic story, have it be more relatable to the general public rather than having a few big fans and a others wondering why we love it so much, but it kinda feels like they couldn't quite pull it off without sacrificing the character development that made the other games so great. Here's to hoping NIS does as good a job (seeing Durante's name is a good sign though) with their port of ToCS3 as XSEED did here, from what I've seen (while trying to avoid spoilers) it seems like the story has really been improved in the newest entry and I'm really looking forward to playing it.
