Don't know why everyone seems to hate it

What is everyone talking about? Reviewing this game poorly because Cyberpunk was rushed to release... what? Falsely reporting that: It has no controller support (it does**) It has no quit/continue (it does**) Abandoned/Unfinished/Buggy? Anecdotally, I've encountered no game breaking bugs (or any to speak of at all)**. What updates are needed at this point? It's complete.. I've unlocked nearly all of the characters and run into no problems. I'm having a blast with the game. No, I'm not part of the dev team... I swear people can't have a positive opinion on anything anymore without being branded a shill. I guess it doesn't feed the internet hate machine? Games cannot be all things to all people. Buy it if you're curious. Gog has a generous return policy if you hate it. For me, the actual game is fun. It's a nice diversion from the action-rogue-lite gameplay of Isaac, and instead, a hybrid Puzzle RPG Rogue-lite with a diegetic art style and narration. Form your own opinions. Only use reviews as a general guide, but only if the reviews make sense at least. Restoring one's faith in the industry after Cyberpunk? WTF? **note: My review is based of the Steam version. I do understand that nicalis has not demonstrated the best patch support for Isaac on gog but I do plan on buying Bum-Bo here once it's on sale for a decent price.

Highly addictive puzzle experience

I can imagine that players coming from Binding Of Isaac may be thrown off by this game, but by itself this is a really solid title and deserves more praise than some of the other reviews let on. Taking place in the world of Binding of Isaac, it tells the story of Bum-Bo who got his coin stolen by a monster and now he's on a quest to get it back. Simple. As is the gameplay which is essentially a "match 4 (or more)". Depending on which symbols you match up, you can do attacks, block, stall and fuel your spells which are character specific and expanded via shops as the game progresses. Enemies eventually get more tricky in their strategies as well. So what seems easy on the surface gains in complexity, but not so much (from what I played so far) that it becomes overwhelming, even if you're not into Puzzle games (like me). I'd almost call it a "Casual Puzzler", but I have not made it far enough in the game to properly judge that. Due to the random nature of your board, the battles will of course also take random turns which sometimes results in battles not being entirely fair. But that goes both ways and in the end it balances itself out again. The cardboard visuals are really charming - especially in motion - the music is just on the same level as Binding of Isaac and the cutscenes short but funny. Bum-Bo is a simple but likeable character and if you like Puzzle/Match-3 games, I think you will enjoy this one.

Surprisingly fun(With a simple mod)

I came in expecting a half assed game that would be a pain to play through, surprisingly, its only half assed. The game itself is a match 4 type of game where you connect poop, pee, boogers, or black teeth(sometimes curse tiles) to damage enemies. Its a simple yet fun concept that the game does well. The big problem? Its buggy, theres a bug where the game doesn't allow you to progress because it black screens at a certain ending. The game tries to unlock an achievement that isn't found(or at least correctly defined) in the gog verison. The game also has quite a few unfair mechanics that make it a pain to play repeatedly. The game has been long abandoned and is in dire need of some love. However if you use the Windfall mod found on the Bumbo subreddit by user u/Shpim, the game shows its true potential. Bugs mostly fixed, mechanics balanced (Bumbo the weird aside), and QOL additions that really should have been in the game at launch. It makes the game truly fun to play through and sinking hours into the game is something I didn't even notice I was doing. Does the base game deserve a lower rating? FOR SURE But the game needs some love and I feel that people need to show the devs that this game has a lot more potential than what was left of it.

Big fun, despite small bugs

Everyone once in a while, I notice that the image of a symbol is stuck in place, hiding the puzzle piece that is actually there. You can get often get around this by moving the row/column to see what is actually there, but sometimes the glitching symbol is larger than the true one. This hasn't cost me a run yet, but it is still irritating. Other than that, it is a great game. The Binding of Isaac is too hectic for me, so the slower pace of a turn-based puzzle game where I can plan out my turn is fun and rewarding. Turning all the gross enemies as crude puppets is charming and adds to the humour.

The cardboard look is nice ..that's it

It's a competent x in a row game, somewhat set in the BOI universe. The latter being pretty much the only reason people look at this game, and it's the ONLY reason to do so. The loading times are awful, the game has no controller support for some reason, there is no quit and continue, there are bugs softlocking your game in between levels, you can run into rooms with enemy set up in a way that you can't avoid taking damage no matter your board, ... Everything about this game just feels like it has been abandoned halfway through development. The foundation and the art is there (the artstyle and the music are good)....but noone seems to ever have playtested the whole thing, it goes out of it's way to get on your nerves. ..and it doesn't look like there will be any improvement, the last patch on steam is from mid march last year. Avoid.
