Is Outdated
The game is simply out of date, I bought it from GOG because whenever there is a sale I buy it here, but the fact that it is out of date discouraged me a little.

A Rare Great KOF Since KOF 96
In short, KOF 2002 UM is a Street Fighter style beat-em-up and is based on utilizing ancient glitches. If you are a casual player with not much time to get into games, get a Tekken title instead. Technically: Sounds & music are fantastic much unlike the previous 98, 2000 and even vanilla 2002 titles with quickly put-together ear-ra... Too bad you will not hear the fantastic Nameless theme unless you finish two (2) arcade fights with MAX 2 moves. The character audio is there. In general, it does not feel like a downgraded arcade port that usually come with its content cut. Graphics are flat 2D, strongly pixelated. The game has not a single line of a story. If you do not know why Athena is there or how to unlock certain boss fights, no one is going to tell you. This game is a very poor entry point to the series, despite being one of the best entries. The gameplay is where the game breaks down a bit. 1. There is very limited content besides about five matches long 3-character Team and Single modes with a mid-boss and a final boss (also a special fight w/ Omega Rugal if special finish the final stage boss without dying) dictated by how many special finishes you perform during the preceding fights. The game plays smooth when mostly basic moves are used and dashes and jumps are avoided. It might be my system, though I experienced repeated input drops making me unable to do basic kicks and punches after a simple jump or the enemy using a flashy move. I use keyboard, so it is very clear when the moves do not come out at all. My guess is that the CPU player's input takes precedence, to the point of processing it first at the expense of player inputs. Speaking which, the CPU players are built on reacting to the inputs of the player, not the visible moves. In practice, this makes trying to defeat a final boss Krizalid with Kyo impossible as it 0-frame counters every single move you do. The boss already has more health than you. Input drops and cheap bosses hurt the fun factor.
