The Invincible

I agree with all the 4- and 5-star reviews, so I'm not going to repeat all the good points they've made. Rather my review will be on how the game performs. The specs for my PC are Intel Core i5-8400 6-cores 2.8GHz, 16GB RAM, nVIDIA GTX 1660 Super 6GB, Samsung SSD 980 Pro and Windows 10. The Samsung SSD is lightning fast. My PC boots and completes login in 30-40 seconds. I've played all the way through four times. I tried all the settings from Low to Epic and experimented with lots of Custom settings too. I'm able to get 60+ fps most of the time, even on Epic settings. But there are micro stutters and significant frame rate drops throughout the entire game. And the significant drops in frame rate always occur at exactly the same spots regardless of the graphics settings. I would assume that other players also see frame rate drops at the same places I do. So, I'm hoping the developers can over time find and fix these through patches. But, even if the game stays as-is, I highly recommend this game!! Intriguing story, top notch voice acting, fantastic graphics and sound, excellent atmosphere, replay value with 11 different endings and no chance of dying. One question though: Why does Yasna randomly hum that silly song at odd places throughout the game??? ;-)

I was liking it so far but in the last part after meeting a certain someone in a cave, something didn't happen as planned. And I don't know how but I did not follow the story as it was meant and I apparently made two missions in the wrong order... And that was it. Could not continue. And only one save... Can not go back to a previous check point. I will not do those 7 hours again. No way. I'm forced to watch the end on youtube.

First things first. I have not read the novel. So i had no idea what i was geting into. Overall it's a little bit like a Sci-Fi Firewatch. They are similair in how they play out. More or less constant radio contact with an unseen person while exploring in a farily linear way. The game does a good job of building atmosphere in what is a barren world with mysterious remnants all around. Yes it's mostly cliffs and desert with some puddles of water here and there and thoe mysterious metal constructs. But the story pushes you forward in a somewhat leisurly pace. There is a looming threat that doesn't really realize itself until very late in the game. I probably got one of the more dissatisfying endings. But the game offers a few. There is a chapter replay system if you decide to go after them. But overall it got me interested in reading the book as well. It has some great sci-fi elements. On the technical side the game ran fine. But performance became very spotty after a while. Not sure if it was just some areas or if there is a memory leak or similair. With som choppy framerates and texture popins in a few places. I had no crashes however. I recommend if you like Sci-Fi adventures with little to no action. And if you liked Firewatch and want a Sci-Fi adventure instead of a forest adventure. Otherwise you might want to check out some early gameplay videos to get a feel for the game before diving in. Unsure if the demo is still available that had a short segment from very early in the game avaible.

Gameplay-wise it's an expanded Firewatch, with some branching and beautiful graphics and sound. Story is classical Sci-Fi and atmosphere and immersion is amazing, I'd love to have more. No less than five stars for me.

This game is not for everyone. You walk slow, you acutely feel your character is walking in an unwieldy cosmic suit. There are long discussions about scientific topics. And I love it. It is one of the most nerdy games I ever played it treats you like an intelligent person who likes to think about what they see. And it presents all of this while showing hauntingly beautiful landscapes of Regis III. You just see passion pouring out of this game. It is also a great companion to the original book "Invincible". The main mystery is lost if you already know the book, but I was having fun anyway.
