Early Access review

Gets boring and quickly at least for now

I love the idea of the game, but currently it is not that much of an improvement from guild 2. Game mechanics seem outdated e.g. interacion with others looks like fable - too many clicks and using a menu at the bottom for everything - it would have been much nicer to have a something with less clicks e.g. similar to sims. My characters went old too quickly so I was obsessed with marrying them (i.e. running all over town after npc-s from to opposite gender) and having children all the time instead of pursuing other things. Also business building became repetitive without any interesting challenges or specifics etc. I hope that more features are added and usability improved in the future.

A plague worse than Black Death

Since The Guild 3 is a game about medieval times, one would expect it to have some of pandemics. Sadly, this game is plagued not by Black Death, but by myriads of bugs that render it barely unplayable. The game's current optimisation is so bad that even medium graphics settings bring the most powerful PCs out there to their knees. One could argue that it's okay to have bugs and bad optimisation during Early Access, but after reading the official devblogs (and playing other Early Access games) I expected the game to be a bit more polished, especially for its price; currently in my country this barely playable Early Access version costs more than Divinity: Original Sin 2, and, according to developers, the price will increase at launch. Don't get me wrong though, the game itself is not actually bad. Like previous The Guild titles (and other titles made by GolemLabs), it has a very fun and engaging concept that plays well, but is ruined by bugs and awful UI that's outright hostile to players. It makes me bitter because it seems like developers have learned nothing from their previous mistakes. Even though almost every problem the game currently has will probably (hopefully) get fixed during Early Access period, and even though I'm a big The Guild series fan, currently I do not recommend purchasing this game, as in its current state it's barely more than an engine demo, and definitely does not live up to standards set by other Early Access games. Wait until it's released and pray that developers fix everything.

Worth

This game feels at the moment kind of outdated. Game mechanics aswell as ingame menues and surface seem very old fashioned. I had to overcome myself to finish the tutorial atleast. I am mainly concerned with keeping every character busy, thus playing all the time in slow motion mode. Game interactions feel sometimes very unintuitive. Sometimes symbols pop up, which are not explained and I can't find any explanation. Numerous actions are very tedious and altogether the game feels more like a casual game instead of medieval business simulation. What I realy miss is the possibility to just let my main character produce goods in one of my companies - without needing an extra work slot - while having no other jobs to do. I really hope they improve this game further and update the main menues aswell as interactions, making it little more complete. The developers should track the way back to the roots, instead of trying new ways, if not done in a proper way. However, playing for while guild 3 has led me to enjoy the pleasure of a long term game of guild 2 instead (which should not be the case for any modern game).

Good ideas but lots of issues

The game has some very good ideas but is still full with bugs and issues. Graphics and Animations are mediocre and we can't even play in multiplayer without deactivating ipv6 in windows (what the heck?) I want to play the game every now and then, but then I get confronted with the bugs and issues and I'm already annoyed and lose enthusiasm to play :( so sad

Great for a lazy weekend.

It's a good game. It has it's slow moments and is more of a management sim than a life sim. Don't expect "Sims" level of interaction. My recomendation is to go in blind, enjoy it for what it is, it's not guild 2 etc but that isn't a bad thing.
