Abrupt, Disappointing Ending

Got it on sale for $1, and I have to say that's all it's worth. It started off as a decent escape room puzzle game. Not much story. About 2 hours of gameplay total, maybe more if the puzzles trip you up. Around the end of the 2 hours the ending of the game came abruptly. I thought I was just entering the next room to continue the game but it ended up being the final room and credits rolled. I was stunned. Nothing happened at all, there was no story, just a small reveal of more information than what you started with. The puzzles themselves were okay but I would not pay more than $1 for this game. Zero replay value.

"Ambience"

It's all about it. Lower the shades, put your feet up, do some self hand massage and pleasurize the inner you with "The Guest", a spanish (indie?! I wonder, in the best way possible since it looks AAA-ish, trust me) made game with lotsa care and, well, mucho amor ;) Storyline? Personally I didn't care that much about it but that's me/the moment I was going through, busy day and all. I was into the puzzles at first but later on I was... I was... damn, it's actually kinda hard to explain. The thing is that you're suddenly bombarded with intriguing puzzles to solve but rest assured, you'll be immersed into this game surroundings, furniture (yup, furniture), environments, sounds and dim lights. You dedicate yourself into this unknown (?) gem, you're into it. Play it with headphones for extra mind-bending experience. Heck, everything nowadays is about the overall "experience" of things or, even better, sensations. This one sums it all up. It depends on what you wanna see! :P (got it?!)

Ok if you like escape style puzzle games

The game starts right off with a fairly creepy sequence, but don't be fooled. This is not a horror nor a creepy game. This is about the end of the creepy factor right there. The puzzles are easy enough, no obtuse "rub items against each other until something works." It's obvious what you should be doing for each puzzle, then it's up to you to solve the. 90% of the items you pick up will have no use, however. Those are for an achievement that does not exist in the GOG version of the game. None of the achievements available on Steam are here, which is a mild shame. That would give the game a reason to be replayed, even if just once. This would pad out the 90 minutes that it took me to complete it. Give or take 15 or 20 minutes depending on how good you are at puzzle solving and how lucky you get at the randomly generated puzzles. Yes, solutions are randomly generated for the majority of the puzzles, but not all of them. In terms of the atmosphere and story, the atmosphere feels about right for much of the game, although it leads you to think a very different thing about the plot of the game, which you are not going to guess until the very end. It's a twist, you see. Not a very good twist. It's not... not exactly bad, it's just out of left field and makes you scratch you head. My final gripe is in how the game handles the ending itself and that once you complete the game, the CREDITS ARE NOT SKIPPABLE! If you tab out of the game, they pause. You must watch them to the end unless you want to use Windows task manager to kill the game process outright. There are also interactables in the final room that you might miss if you click them out of order. One of them will end the game. The others are just there for you to look at and there's no indication which one is the more important item. Last word on this story. Slight spoilers, but probably not. Who is leaving the hand scrawled warning notes? Who is Irene? Why does it matter if she is dead or not? Dead end plot thread.

Fairly average

Fairly average puzzle/escape the room game. Nothing particularily memorable. Puzzle were a medium difficulty (some quite easy). Not much to say really, atleast the price wasn't too high to make me regret it.

Interesting but short

It's a nice little game with a athmosphere that can be called oppresive in some places. Puzzles are interesting and imaginative but unfortunatelly the story told in the clues and other materials you find isn't really coherent? At least for me it seems that we have been provided with less info on the story that is normal in this type of games. I wouldn't even call it barebone - it's more of a sketch of an interesting idea. But as I said the game has it's moments especially when it plays with light and darkness. HOWEVER there is one puzzle that may make this game unpleyable for some and Very difficult for others. It's a music puzzle where you hear a tune and have to recreate it on the keypad. You have 3 tries and the tune changes. AND IT'S TOTALLY RANDOM. If you don't have an ear for music or if you have trouble with hearing you won't be able to complete this game. Which is a shame - there should be a patch adding a setting for hard of hearing in the options that would replace this puzzle with sth else. Or just remove ramdomisation of that puzzle.
