Description

The Glitch Fairy DEMO is available here

The Glitch Fairy is a fast action platformer starring Monie, a spunky fairy with the unusual power to ''glitch'' her enemies.

Our story begins when Monie gets her flying ability stolen by her arch nemesis, the minigun-wielding Princess ''Badassia'' Spalanie.

Fortunately for our little fairy, she discovers a shrine that grants her a new magical power; The Glitch Beam, a powerful reality-bending tool that turns her enemies into all sorts of fun and useful things.

Now flightless, but stronger than ever, Monie embarks on a quest to confront her old rival and get her flying ability back!

The core gameplay of The Glitch Fairy focuses on jumping, shooting, dashing, and glitching. The Glitch Beam can be used as a speedrunning tool, or as a way to explore every nook and cranny each level has to offer.

Glitching different enemies will lead to different results! Spawning black holes, turning your magic blasts into flying swords, making you run like a 50s cartoon, creating a ghost platform, spawning healing items, giving you a harpoon gun, you name it!

- Glitch your way through 15 varied levels and over 12 secret bonus levels, including a magical forest, a busy tavern, a mesmerizing crystal cavern, a medieval battlefield, a haunted temple, deep space, and even a giant beehive!

- Over 30 different glitches to experiment with.

- Face off against 18 bosses, including a 7-foot princess wielding a minigun!

- A killer soundtrack meticulously composed to fit the varied tones and locations of The Glitch Fairy’s story and scenery.

- Hand-drawn cutscenes between every level!

- Fast, speedrun-friendly gameplay! The Glitch Beam is the perfect accessory if you want to breeze through a level multiple times to get that Best Time.

- A compendium to fill with over 100 entries, each with its own illustration and lore!

- Collectables galore! Mysterious amethysts, Power Ups, rare currency, equippable artifacts, and, most importantly, dolls who can follow you on your quest!

- Charming characters and a rich lore. If you dig deep enough, you might find something unexpected.

Masterpiece

This game is truly a labor of love, it’s been worked on for the better part of a decade. It’s been reworked to improve it in so many ways. It’s a love letter to classic like mega man while taking inspiration from newer indies like Iconoclast. Feel free to take in the scenery of the hand draw art while you are shoved into a story and lore that will take you too the process of … well I won’t spoil everything and let you discover it for yourself

Platformer For Those Who Love Secrets

I would currently rate the game a 9/10. The developers are working on improving the title and that is to be commended. I have asked about this because I do not like to feature wrong information in reviews but I haven't read back from the developers on whether or not players can find the knowledge on how to use consumable items anywhere in-game. Since the developer told me on the GOG forums I will give you the answer here but if people do not read this review or play this game on Steam they may have a much worse experience for it. (I went with a git gud approach but got stumped at the boss who took Monie's flying.) In order to use consumables you must press "Enter" and use F while hovering over the selected item in the pause menu while you are in a stage. "Enter" also allows you to go to a different menu that allows you to exit the game while you are on the overworld. I wrote a review for the demo. I will try not to repeat myself too much but some core mechanics need to be covered as I do not know how many people will read both of them. To begin with, it may take some time getting used to the controls. Once you understand what the game expects of you it will make a massive difference. I did NOT go with story mode, which means that you lose 5 coins each time that you wipe, and the first stage where you can find coins and candy had me finish with 0 coins on my first attempt. On my second attempt I ended with 35 coins. Story Mode may seem like a good thing at first glance but it will make it harder to keep track of how much you improved. The only other review at the time of me writing this compares this game to Mega Man. I personally saw elements of "Rayman Forever" and "Rayman Redemption" in this title in terms of gameplay and enemy design. Visually speaking there are more references to Super Mario. There are upgrades that allow you to play more like Mega Man. It is a matter of personal preference, of course, but the game often tends to prefer speed. There are lists of par times for stages that you can view next to the entrance/exit of Monie's town. The game gives you a "dash" but I personally think that a better word for this move would be "twirlwind". This "charges up" your jump to become stronger as it lifts you up higher into the air. I believe that if you enjoy speedrunning and you master this move you will find the upper skill ceiling to be very gratifying. Perhaps even more than the advertised Glitch Beam. You can read the description of what the game is about or watch a trailer but doing it for yourself is worth a 1000 pictures. This game is not easy. You will want to save up coins to buy upgrades and look for secrets. In that sense the platforming will make the boss battles easier to deal with. That is something to consider. While upgrades make the game easier, by Stage 4 you will need to have mastered the "Dash" ability. It is, by my approximation, the biggest difficulty spike after you master Stage 1 (again not counting the Tutorial). At this point your health pool likely isn't enough to bruteforce most sections and even if it were you'd still.instantly lose if you fall down. Again, this harkens back to Story Mode being more kind to you in terms of gold but making it so that you may not fully grasp your own skill deficit when it comes to platforming. Dying puts you at the start of a room but if you cannot make the jumps then you'll still be stuck there. Given that some people use how long a game takes for their value appraisal it may be of value to note that my time was 57 hours and 54 minutes after beating the boss rush. Please keep in mind that I took an extended break to play another game while waiting for an answer from the developers when you look at that.
