Avoid Creation Club and its crap content

You can totally skip on this content. It just adds the notorious Creation Club Content to Skyrim. The CreationClub was introduced by Bethesda to market mod items or quest mods done by Bethesda themselves (seldom) or approved external creators (usually) for money that are usually available for free through Nexus Mods anyways. Plus it often breaks your modlist and messes up your mods when you already run a modded version of Skyrim SE. And the items included with this pack? Totally not worth it. You can either get them for free and if not, you don't need them anyways. Everything you want is done by fans for free. So you really don't need this money extortion store to access the content that is worth it. Get the base game, get the mods you like. Have fun.

I like it

The Anniversary Upgrade got a lot of flak upon release because a lot of people disagree with creation club content on principal. Additionally, it broke SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) meaning your mods wouldn't work anymore. I wouldn't necessarily say I agree with the whole Creation Club idea either, but I really enjoyed the added content in this expansion. The added armors look amazing and the addition of Chrysamere from the older titles is really cool. If you examine the expansion by itself, it really is quite solid in my opinion. Additionally, SKSE has been patched for anniversary addition. I played this expansion for ~20 hours and all of my mods, including gameplay changing ones that relied heavily on SKSE, functioned perfectly fine. Just make sure you get the anniversary version of SKSE and you'll be fine.

A note about mods and this DLC

I know this has likely been discovered by now, but the chief reason mods aren't working with the Anniversary update (Which you get regardless if you have this DLC or not) is because a new script extender is required. For example the GOG version has its own script extender you use for that version, Steam has it's own too, that's how I was able to get mods loaded up on the GOG version. Like I said most folks are likely aware of this by now, but I felt it would be good to share this bit of info all the same... So... what about the contents of the Anniversary upgrade? I will admit that a lot of it is kinda clumsily inserted into the game, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy most of the goodies this DLC adds to the game, I don't consider it essential by any means and the price tag is a bit high for what you're buying, but like I said, for half off I don't feel ripped off, also you can find mods that help better integrate this content into the game, making it less jarring. Long story short, wait for a sale and don't worry, this can work with a modded game :)

Mods are working

I just want to confirm that mods are working. I've read a lot of comments here that have scored down the game and left negative review because they think mods don't work. This is just not true. I've been testing it for the past few days and most of the popular mods (Unofficial Skyrim Patch, SkyUI, SMIM, Climates of Tamriel, A Noble Skyrim - 2K Texture Pack, Achievements Mods Enabbler, Immersive Citizens, etc.) work. I used the latest version (1.8.3) of Vortex Mod Manager for testing. Hope it helps and have fun with one of the best games in history!
