I've always been absolutely terrible at point-n-click adventures. It usually takes me around 5 minutes before I get frustrated and give up.
I gave this game a try because other reviews said it was 'easy'. And I'm glad I did. I *finally* found an adventure game I could work out for myself, and I actually managed to complete it (I only cheated twice :-)
I liked this game for its humour and its 'difficulty level'. It has encouraged me to try others from decades ago that I long ago gave up on.
I will say that for me, it's 5 stars, but that would depend on your sense of humor. The game is pretty simple and the characters make it all the better. Only downside I found is that I wish there was more, and luckily, there is a season 2 announced.
It is short, indeed.
But for what it wants to be, it is very nice for playing in between bigger games. The puzzles are mostly logical, although rather easy. And there are nice jokes and many good ideas, for example the ghosts in the library and the setting of the underground case.
I didn't know anything about the Darkside Detective series, but I loved the retro pixelated graphics from the store description and decided to try it out. When I first started the game and saw how simplistic the controls are (basically just clicking and moving left/right/up/down) my first impression was that it was going to be lame. But the music and graphics had my attention so I kept playing. I'm so glad I did! I agree with others that have said some of the puzzles are very easy...but not all of them! There were a few times I really had to think about which items could be combined or who I needed to talk to for another clue. More importantly, the stories and characters are awesome and genuinely funny. I loved the dialogue and banter between the two main characters and found myself wishing there were more cases. Then I found out there was a sequel and bought it right away.
I am not someone who really plays point-and-click adventure games, but I was intrigued by the premise and the art style of this game. Coming from that perspective, the game is awesome. It is **SHORT**, as other reviews have noted. However, the puzzles were intuitive and simple enough for a noobie like me. The cases were fun, and the writing made me laugh out loud more than once. I think it's great.
