Description
In Andergast, whose inhabitants are considered to be notoriously superstitious, King Efferdan awaits a state visit from high-ranking dignitaries. For centuries the kingdom has been at odds with neighboring Nostria, but now first steps are being undertaken toward a lasting peace. But a plague of crows troubles the king, for the birds are acting with unusual aggressiveness, even attacking humans. Moreover, there are those among the citizens of Andergast who swear that the crows are bringing them dark nightmares. As the belligerent creatures infiltrate even the castle itself, the king seeks a skilled bird catcher - an opportunity for young Geron to prove that the reputation for ill luck that has followed him since childhood is undeserved. Following an audience with the king, the prestigious task is assigned to him. However, not only does his task prove unexpectedly difficult, but it also turns out to be the first step of the greatest adventure of his life, which will lead him to the borders of the charted lands of Aventuria and beyond.

With a history of more than 25 years, The Dark Eye is one of Europe's best-known role-playing brands. In addition to the popular pen & paper adventures, TDE has also inspired a series of successful computer games. The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav takes you deep into the world of Aventuria, where you’ll take on the role of young Geron and get caught up in a mysterious plot that threatens to wipe out the kingdom of Andergast, a back-water realm in the northwest of Aventuria.

  • Experience the world of The Dark Eye as a classic point-and-click adventure!
  • A breathtaking art style that shows every nuance of Aventuria.
  • Solve a variety of side quests each with different paths towards a solution.

Great Game, no german version

Loved the game. Great graphics, which even run on my potato laptop, wonderful music, okay character development, and the puzzles are neither to hard, nor to easy. I have to deduct 1 point for not including the german version, which i consider to be the original version. I know, it's because of some license BS, but it doesn't seem like GOG even cares anymore.

The English version is somewhat crude

I have played the original in German, and it was full of irony. Now that version in English misses that and because of this, the story gets somewhat displeasing at certain points. I can understand that many players don't like the acting. A pity, really.

Well done, but not too fun.

Not much to add at this point, the other reviews generally nail it. The good: -A true adventure game. The adventure genre is so rare to come by in modern gaming anymore, and this game was completely faithful to that. It was very refreshing. -High production values. It's clear a lot of effort was put into doing this game well. As others have said, the visuals are beautiful, the music is well done. The game just shows that its developers cared. The bad: -Voice acting. Oh my goodness, this really is what ruined the game. I found myself wondering, if I turned off voice acting, and just read text blurbs like the old games, maybe I would have liked this game a lot better? It just sounded like the two main characters were phoning in all their lines and didn't care about them. And it really just breaks the entire atmosphere of the game, and ruins any attachment you may have formed with the characters. -Story. This may have been just from the bad voice acting making me care less about the game, but for as much effort as was put into this game, something about the story just wasn't engaging. I never really was invested to find out what happens next. -Buggy. I can't tell you how many times the game crashed on my computer. I had to go through this song and dance of updating video card drivers, and setting my game settings perfectly to even finish the game. Rather frustrating. Overall: I enjoyed playing the game for how hard it tried to do well by its genre, but do to flawed characters/acting, wasn't a very good game.

Beautiful artwork, fun adventure game

The beautiful artwork really draws me in. I love it. I found the puzzles challenging, but not overly so. Most of the solutions were pretty clever and I could figure them out without too much random clicking. I did resort to looking up the solution to three puzzles. So, I wouldn't consider the game too easy either. It was enjoyable and I look forward to playing the sequel.

Recommended for adventure fans

Most has already been said: The art is beautiful, but animations are bad. Story and characters are not great, but interesting enough. The game is not too hard, but not all puzzles make sense. All-in-all it's a game I would recommend to adventure fans; particularly at $10 or less.
