The Coma: Recut

You play as a student stuck in school, hiding from his teacher that wants to stab him. Collect resources for your inventory that can only hold 6 things. Collect money to buy specific things you need. Basically it's like Outlast, running from the killer while trying to accomplish your objectives. I liked this one, the art style is great and the plot is intriguing enough. Visual design with the killer and the environments is great. Got stuck for a bit due to a key item appearing in an area I'd already explored earlier than required. The gameplay gets a bit repetitive before the end. This doesn't get overly annoying due to the game being about 4-5 hours long.

It so happened that I went through the Koma series in reverse order. And you know - it is even more interesting to go through the 2nd part first, and then the first) The first part loses a little to the sequel in terms of duration and mechanics. However, it has an interesting plot and well-thought-out horror. I highly recommend playing both parts of the game.

Positives: -Good atmosphere -Nice concept and lore -Genuinely scary, at least at the beginning -Attractive art style -Addictive, in a way Negatives: -Awful, clunky controls that don't make sense and perpetually fight against you -Unbelievable amounts of tedious backtracking -Feels like playing a game on your phone, rather than a full fledged computer game -Dull characters, bland notes -Unfair, frustrating enemy placements -The killer's chase soon becomes cheap and annoying -Frustrating gameplay that consists of a lot of trial and error -Everything looks samey after a while and this makes for a delicious combination with the backtracking mentioned above -Pretty uninspiring, forgettable music -The several endings....arrrgh

This game have an interesting theme : the school in korea. You start the game taking your first exam and you will play all along in the deserted, creepy school. The gameplay is simple, you can run, walk and hide. You will have to find your way out this haunted school pursued by a monster. You have three aeras that you will unlock by exploring and progressing in the story. I liked the fact that even given the situation, the school boy you play kept talking about his exams showing the stress the student have to endure. The first aera is pretty simple, the second one is a little more tricky with some dead end, and the third is a maze. This is an good difficulty curve even is the gameplay stay the same giving you a feeling of repetivity. Exploring will reward you with note essential to understand the lore of and to learn more about the character you cross. There is 5 endings and it took me almost five hours to complete one. The weak point of this game is his repetitivity. At first the game is scary and then you get use to it and became less sensible. The animation and drawing are good thought. There is also a lot of backtracking if you want to complete all the secondary objective. This is a cool game with some obvious default but still really pleasant to play. If you like run and hide horror game go for it.

It's a nice game with great looks and a very restrictive gameplay that forces you to make strategic choices that are important to keep you on your toes while you try to make it through a haunted school hallways alive and understand why the heck you're trapped in this endless nightmare. I'm enjoying it so far, specially for the story, although the gameplay can become dull quite quickly. I recommend it if you like adventures and are looking for something with chill gameplay to chill your bones here and there.
