I think I put this review in the Polish version with a title indicating dates. If so, that's a mistake so please remove it. Sorry. Here is a copy of the same review but with a more pertinent title:
No response yet from the game developers on the forum for The Chronicles of Myrtana:
I bought Gothic II from GOG to play The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos. Gothic II is working fine, but here is what I get when I try to run The Chronicles of Myrtana (latest version is 1.1.3):
Gothic II -- 2.6 (fix) has caused an access violation at address 003A1B68h by attempting to 'read' from
address 00AB40D8h
My system is:
AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
16 GB ram
Windows 10 Home Edition
The last 2 big games I've purchased from GOG and played on this system are The Witcher III and X4 Foundations--never any crash due to access violation. So, I don't think it's my system causing the problem.
Note: I played Gothic II from my own CDs a few years ago. I rate it 5/5, so The Chronicles of Myrtana would likely be 5/5 and not 1/5 if it would run on my system.
Not a bad effort with lots of stuff to do to keep you busy. Just like Gothic 2 only you are weaker and everything else is stronger so it takes longer. I never make it past the first chapter in the Gothic series as I lose interest after the first 10 hours.
The mod is standing on its own with the abundance of creative content, including places, objects, models, descriptions, and so on; this can be noticed only after as much as several hours in. There's a lot of each category in this mod; more than I was expecting, truth be told. Even the provided voiceover recordings are excellent and the fact they are here in the first place is a massive bonus.
That being said, it's definitely not the "best Gothic mod of the past two decades", as the already circulating rumors would like you to believe. The claustrophobic design of most buildings springs first to mind, but the failed optimization would be the second obvious issue (even with the "obligatory" DX11 wrapper it's not as good as you would expect, since the overcooked amount of polygons on most 3D assets).
But the worst thing? If I wouldn't have a few years of Gothic modding experience under my belt, I wouldn't even be able to play it on the premiere. I tried both GOG and retail installation methods, and only after both failed, I had to come up with own solution and make a slapdash, stitched CoM installation that will let me finally play.
Therefore, get it on Steam, if you don't know what you're doing.
took me ages of mucking about trying to figure why my gothic had lost its english etc. :sigh:
yet the entire storefront and game description is in english ironically ..duh.
should make the whole game/store description in polish, that way us "non fan boys" can just skip past it etc,
its misleading as it is imo and annoying,i have little enough leasure time as it is between work shifts etc to waste downloading something i cant use .
The game does look good but i want to "play" a video-game, not read a book whilst listening to gobbledegook noises,
sound/voices/words/comunication are the main tools in any game..
its like being in newark shopping centre, another similar "experience"..lol
