Description
Susan Ashworth, known in her neighbourhood as the crazy Cat Lady, is a lonely 40- year old on the verge of suicide. She has no family, no friends and no hope for a better future. One day she discovers that five strangers will come along and change everything. But those five, "The Parasites", are also the most ruthless, deranged and cold-blooded bunch of psychopaths the city has ever known. They will stop at nothing to hurt Susan. Unless, she hurts them first...

Susan's few weeks journey doesn't take her across the world and won't turn her into a hero. She has little faith in others and hardly even cares about herself. She can't fight and has never fired a gun in her life. But she's hanging onto that thin thread of hope, that in the end, as promised, there's an elusive reward waiting for her. Something worth trying for. Something that'll help her find an unlikely friend. Something that'll give her life a purpose. Susan's journey takes her on a roller-coaster ride between the world of the living and the world of the dead, where the only way to survive is to overcome her biggest weakness: her own self.

The Cat Lady is a new, critically acclaimed horror adventure game by designer Remigiusz Michalski (author of Downfall, 2009). A gripping story, pumping soundtrack, high-resolution artwork, and motivational voice acting will engross you on your journey through the strange and often terrifying world of The Cat Lady.

  • A deeply engrossing story dripping with gut-wrenching tension and pacing by writer Remigiusz Michalski.
  • A highly stylized visual style with high resolution artwork.
  • Simple keyboard controls for a streamlined experience.
  • Features a pumping soundtrack with 70+ minutes of original music.
  • Indie development & voice cast provide gritty, uncensored punch.

I choosed onion and he knew it....

....FROM THE BEGINING Excellent horror walk and choose story driven game. Sorry for the small spoiler in the title ;) The horror here is good, really good, like a lake coverd by thin ice you have to walk through. It takes inspiration in daily life but every step you make, the ice, the smooth and comfortable reality can crack open under your feet and swallow you in a madening and icy horror. It's seven, the texas chainsaw massacre, delivrance, epidemic and death wish in a single bottle. Ok maybe not all in one simple bottle but this game is the kind that deserve to be one hanging around those bottles. And there is an achievabe good ending, don't be an ass, stand for your ground and be releived from this heavy and gloomy burden that is sadness and depression. Yeah truly a great game, even if there are some lenght in the scenario, sometimes, just sometimes. Also play downfall before. As good, different but really similar and an introduction to our nice neighbour, joe davis (what a nice guy).

Bleak & Hopeful

TL;DR: A grim, touching narrative adventure about death, trauma, and learning to live again. Great atmosphere and storytelling, but obviously made by a small team with nearly no funding. You play as Susan, the titular cat lady, and the game immediately cuts to the chase; our protagonist has purposefully downed a lethal dose of drugs and is losing consciousness. It's a jarring opening, presented so humanly and unflinchingly that I originally had to step away from the game and come back when I was in a better headspace. I won't spoil the plot, but obviously this is not the end for Susan. While the story does stray into the fantastical throughout, it manages to keep itself grounded with relatable characters in heavy situations. I won't say it's a masterpiece of unprecedented genius, but the writers manage to walk an impressive tightrope of content that is varyingly upsetting, touching, and ever so slightly goofy. A quick glance at screenshots of this game should tell you if you're going to enjoy its sense of style. I think it's best described as a collage of pictures that don't all quite mesh. Character sprites switch between pixel art and looking like low-res photos. Background images look like they've been lifted and recolored. I think it works, keeping environments unsettling without standing out, but I'd also expect this to be the most subjective point of argument. There is full voice acting, and for the two main characters it's relatively good, but others sound more amateurish, and there is some obviously cheap recording gear in use. I didn't find this too jarring, but it is noticeable, and will undoubtedly put off some players. The Cat Lady is a bona fide cult classic, and I can see why so many love it despite the team's obvious lack of resources. If you're in the mood for a creepy story about the best and worst of humanity, this is an excellent entry to kick off spooky season, and I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of the series.

Boring and Depressing

I tried to play this game, really I did. Each time I opened it, I'd play for 10 minutes and then find myself checking Facebook or doing those chores I'd been putting off all week. The story didn't interest me, and the two-dimensional movement was frustrating and slow. I suppose it's worth it if you're into the art for art's sake-type game, but I need a more gripping narrative and the ability to interact more with objects and places. Not the game for me.

Excellently Written but Lacking Gameplay

Throughout the course of The Cat Lady, I found myself intrigued but frustrated. Among the more immediate sources of frustration are the controls. You'll control Susan and interact with items and the environment with the arrow keys and the Enter key and that is it. This may seem petty, but binding to the WASD keys would have been much more comfortable. Additionally, it would have been nice to have a key to hold to make Susan run, if only because you don't need to watch her walk across the screen. You will want to run to get to the action. I found myself growing impatient with the frequent and lengthy dialogue Susan has with the other characters. I found no way to skip any of the dialogue, which would have been nice. Fortunately the voice acting is superb. Without it, the game would have been unplayable for me, despite how well written the script is. Your character Susan is slowly revealed through these interactions and her depression is relatable rather than painting her as obnoxiously pathetic. The friendly characters are gradually built up to be sympathetic and the antagonists make themselves absolutely loathsome. I never felt so determined to seek lethal revenge on any character in any other game as I did in The Cat Lady. Additionally, Susan is a completely dynamic protagonist and the pacing with which her history is revealed and how she develops during the adventure is expertly done. All of this dialogue is not broken up frequently enough by the puzzles. As bizarre as this game is, none of the puzzles were so obtuse as to be frustrating. There is also surprising variety in what seems like such a limited number of puzzles. The soundtrack like the voice acting is excellent. The art style is basic and appropriate and I found it neither exceptional nor distracting. The controls seemed archaic and I wished for more puzzles and less conversation, but perhaps the abundant dialogue was necessary to feel so passionately for your allies and against your foes
