I loved the Bard's Tale in the '80s and the remastered verson is even better. the auto mapping and quality of life improvements are incredible.

One of the Greatest Games of All Time
Warriors and wizards unit! The original Bard's Tale I-III were classics, but the remaster has made them even better - near perfect, actually, for everything I would have asked for! It's just brilliant. The three best features that have been updated are... (1) Automapping (no more damn graph paaper) (2) Saving anywhere (not just the Adventurer's Guild) (3) Easy spell selection (no more fussing with four-letter spell codes) Of course, if you really want the experience of the originals, you do have the option of the "Legacy mode." It's also fun that you're allowed to build a party in BTI, and use it all the way into and through BTIII. You're not required, but it's an entertaining option. This game is NOT about fancy graphics or tricky sounds. Moving through cities, dungeons and towers is mostly the same right-angle, static background that you found in Wolfenstein 3D, in 1992. Combat is a mostly static picture of the enemy, while you read a text scroll explaining what is happening. It's not straight-ahead dungeon delving, though, either. There are codes and processes to figure out, clues and puzzles, movement between locations that you have to explore... it's just a neat game all around. One of the two best games ever (the other is Sid Meier's Pirates! - also available on GOG). Thanks, guys!
