Live through an epic role-playing Viking saga where your strategic choices directly affect your personal journey. Make allies as you travel with your caravan across this stunning yet harsh landscape. Carefully choose those who will help fight a new threat that jeopardizes an entire civilization. Every decision you make in travel, conversation and combat has a meaningful effect on the outcome as your story unfolds. Not everyone will survive, but they will be remembered.
An epic Viking saga brought to life in 2D glory – beautifully hand drawn combat sequences and animations, accompanied by an evocative score from Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory, will immerse you into a fantasy realm inspired by Norse mythology.
Over 25 playable characters from 2 different races, human and varl, the horned giants – embark on your epic journey with a variety of characters from 7 different classes, each with unique abilities and upgrade options to fit your play style.
Strategic combat with consequences - victory or defeat and even the permanent loss of a character depends on which characters you choose to take into battle and what decisions you make afterwards.
The journey is as important as battle – your role in building and managing your caravan as you travel the vast frozen landscape is critical to not only your own survival but the survival of an entire civilization.

I keep my reviews short, but I will say this is one of my favorite strategy RPGs, favorite stories in a game, and just one of the great indie game. A must buy!
Good
- Beautiful drawings & interesting animation
- Nice music and sounds
Bad
- Repetitive gameplay
- Not sure if the choices changes the story
- Difficult combat situations, especially later in game.
- The fact that you can only take a limited amount of guys in battle but the enemy can take as many as it wants is stupid.
- WAAAAYYYY to long waiting between events. Should be a mini game or something to do or even a dialog between two persons while you travel. A BIG WASTE OF TIME HERE!
Overall, don't buy this unless you have played it already.
Been seeing ads for this game and finally picked it up.
The story is amazing! I love getting surprised by the results of my choices. While managing your caravan moments arise needing your guidance. Some give you immediate results, both good and bad. While others may give you and immediate result and a later surprise further down the road.
The combat is pretty simplistic, but still fun. And though it is a big part of the game, I think it could be better. Personally I had more fun following the story and managing my caravan than fighting the battles.
I have played through 3 times and will probably try it a couple more times while I wait for the second in the series to come out.
Well worth the price.
So...basically I liked this game, I didn't *love* it. It's essentially Oregon trail. Random events happen in the caravan(s) you're leading, and choices pop up on screen. You don't really have a choice of where you go, as the story line is leading you, but there's an extensive and interesting map....why? Some of your choices mean or do nothing, and some of them have consequences you won't get until much later in the game. The fighting was relatively difficult from the start, which isn't the worst, but when you can't save at will it becomes tedious. There aren't clear "good guy" and "bad guy" paths, I suppose that's realistic, but I would've liked to be able to understand and choose more clearly. You can't hunt for food which seems like a real miss to me. You're all soldiers and giants wandering through the (admittedly dangerous) woods and you can't go hunt for supplies? SMH... Some characters die with consequences, some seem like they got killed but really didn't, and some die with no option to save them. Sometimes a death/strength drain, in combat, kills someone and ends the game, sometimes they're just fine once combat ends, whether you won or not. The lack of consistency is irritating. I love games with a good back story, but it should be integrated into the game, I shouldn't have to go read something to get a sense of place and urgency. I wish there was more voice acting, it's pretty minimal. There were a couple buggy parts, in dialog and game play. The most interesting parts of the game come towards the end, aren't explained very well, and don't really come to a satisfying conclusion, in my opinion. I would almost liken this game to playing a prequel, based on a trilogy I never got to read. All that being said, the artwork was gorgeous if rather static and in some parts repetitive. I hope Stoic makes an upgraded sequel so I feel more like I'm playing a cohesive game rather than being dragged around and forced into choices without comprehension
