Description
A mysterious signal originating from the Tharsis region of Mars set us on a frantic mission. Who sent it? And why? Impossible questions, but in them lie the key to humanity’s survival.

Now, millions of miles away from home, a micrometeoroid storm has left us with a severely damaged ship, two deceased crew, and the sneaking suspicion this trip was doomed from the start.

Tharsis is a turn-based space strategy game. With dice. And cannibalism. It puts you in control of humanity’s first mission to Mars, just as it’s struck by a micrometeoroid storm. You must guide your crew through disasters, food shortages, and the unforgiving nature of space — all while maintaining your sanity amidst cryptic signals and warnings from Mars.

Defy the odds, make the difficult decisions, and embark on the most important mission in human history.
  • Command humanity's first mission to Mars in a unique turn-based strategy experience
  • A dynamic events system that ensures no two games of Tharsis are alike
  • A hard mode for those of you who want your trip to Mars to be a little more... death-filled

Beautiful! ...But It hates me!

This game is simply put, brilliant! It's artwork and music create this eerie space atmosphere without breaking your concentration (you'll need all of it to strategise!). There is a strong luck element involved in the gameplay, but it's effect on your progress can be minimised by thinking ahead. It's also one of those rare strategy gems that you can fire up to play a quick game or two, as a single play through only takes about 30 minutes. And every attempt is different from the previous one, forcing you to adapt your tactics or face the consequences - on the bright side, bad mistakes can provide edibles for the remaining crew! ;) In the main story mode you must survive 10 weeks in space in a large tin can that loves nothing more than malfunctioning critically in your face every single turn. Aside from that, there are numerous smaller missions, or challenges to complete (like: survive five weeks with only one crew member) and a squadron of unlockable characters, each with their own unique abilities to aid you in your quest. Will you get the cannibal? This game will make you rage quit often, but if you're a sucker for a good strategy game like I am, you'll keep coming back for more!

Game plays fine, but you dont know how

Game looks and plays fine, its just you dont have any understanding of whats going on and what you should do. Im good with dices, im not good with full random mode of how many dangers can be at once, how much points they require to fix and what should i do when doing the samea ction sometimes results in a different outocmes. I dont ask for spoonfeeding, just a proper explanation on what to do.

Fun in short bursts

A group of astronauts en route to Mars attempt to discover the source of an unknown signal on the surface of the planet. Tharsis has you as the player trying to get their ship there in 1 piece. You'll notice that this ship seems to be put together by glue, tape, and well wishes which means it falls apart constantly. The game is turn-based in that you'll move your crew to each module and roll dice to see if you'll have a chance it fixing it. Each turn something breaks, while the hunger of the crew grows with each day and with that a die is removed from each crew member when it is their chance to roll. This game is all about juggling resources in order to make it to Mars as best as you can. Tharsis is clearly designed around tablets as its primary platform, UI navigation is...fine on PC but would feel more natural playing this on a tablet. It's a fun game to play in short bursts but the loop of the game gets boring after a while. Worth picking up during a sale.

Overpriced, but not bad

Playthroughs are very short, and if you've played one, you've played them all. It's a neat concept, but it needs a lot more depth. Imagine if FTL was just moving crew members around to put out fires, and... nothing else. Tharsis is part of a game I would really want to play. But it's missing the rest.

2018 Review

I noticed that all the reviews are 2016, and thought I should spark an interest. This game is AWESOME. I bought it when GOG had a weekend sale and I was looking for a quick nightly choice game that I can play during my free 2 hour ME time. I play Yahtzee, Scrabble, Mahjongg, Backgammon, every night. I pick one or two to play. Tharsis however has consumed me. I started out very frustrated with losing on easy. I spent daytime moments thinking about the game and trying different strategies at night. According to the Stats in the Game, I have played 59 times. I have won 15 games. Tonight I won my 1st Normal game after 10 plus attempts. It is a tough game. But, it is FUN. Bottom Line, I spend more time playing this game than all the other games I used to play.
