Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon

I would give this game five stars if it weren't for two things. The first thing is that this game, having been released in the 1990's, has 1990's movement controls. Moving the mouse forward or backward to move in that direction gives me a headache. However, it's not a major part of the game. It does come into play with the second thing, though. Sometimes it is hard to see small objects in the world due to how the environment is rendered. At a specific angle, an object may only be one pixel tall. Looking for small, hard-to-see objects with awkward movement controls frustrated me a couple of times. After these things, everything else is amazing. The acting is perfectly bad, the story is confusing and outlandish, and the music is cheesy and catchy. This game is dated in the best possible way. If you find yourself stuck, the hint system is extensive. Extensive enough to the point where you don't really need to think much if you don't want to.

They really don't make 'em like this any more.

Third tex murphy adventure, but the first written by aaron conners, and the magic happens.

This updated version sold by GOG is rife with audio stuttering and strange visual glitches. The game is technically playable, but why subject yourself to such tortures? I could not find a working fix online, so I gave up trying. Some have said (concerning other DOS games) that older versions sold on GOG did not have such issues; and when GOG "improves" a game, they do not check if their "improved versions" actually work well, and remove the old versions from availability. So, you are forced to make do with only ONE version which may or may not work. Meanwhile, a copy of this game I bought elsewhere runs flawlessly. So, I'm refunding this GOG one and not looking back.
