Give it try...
I have to admit, I bought this just because I received a huge discount and as I was making a bigger purchase, it was only a minor part of it, to round the price ( 15 € does look far better to me, than 13.80 € :-) ). It had the smallest installer from all those purchased games, so I gave it a try as first... To make the long story short, it took couple of weeks before I got to other games, and I still do play it a lot. I am still amazed by the feeling of freedom, the geniality of "drive" in game, as you do not get any story, no target or anything, and yet you find urself after couple of hours, still in-game exploring, and following a "story" of yourself. You are given some milestones and hints ( spoiler : world infestation ), but you have to fill it with the purpose anyway. From my experience, I do recommend to avoid any guides or walkthroughs. I just loved to explore the game system itself. I was amased to figure out crafting, house principles, NPC's, bosses or events. Do you have a couple of long lonely nights at computer ahead of yourself? Then make a new character, new BIG world and just try it. I can guarantee, you will not be disapointed ( if this survival/explore/RPG-kinda game is your cup of tea, of course ). It is somehow similar (warning : it is a long-shot) to DayZ - you start in a dangerous world with nothing. You can die and you will die a lot. But at the end, if you succeed in every challenge the world throws at you, well you will conquer the world itself :-) And a small SPOILER : hint for new ppl to this game - do not kill the voodoo demon above the lava. Do not ask me why, I wont tell, but as this is going to happen to you anyway, do not worry - it can be killed, but the first time you see it, ( hey a voodo demon, kill it, ... ... sh*t! :-) ) you will die. And its not final, this is just the world is only warming up :-D

Absolutely love it!
I've been playing Terraria since update 1.1, which has been quite some time ago and I absolutely love it. I've grown quite attached to this game and at this point I'm sure I'll be loyal for life. I have just shy of 1,000 hours of gameplay on Steam and I currently run a server. The online capabilities of Terraria and the change of pace from single player to multi player is fantastic. Each server is different from the last and it adds to the playability of the game ten-fold. If you're interested in an enjoyable game with plenty of content and a community that loves to play together, then Terraria is most certainly for you. If you're interested in online play, Saybrook's Planet (sbplanet.hopto.org would be the IP) has a terrific community; another great server would be Panther's server(www.terraria.tls.id.au is their website and the IP for the server can be found on there). Hopefully I'll see some of you all on Saybrook's sometime! :D Have fun, everyone!

Not without problems
This is a solid game and most people will have some fun with it, making it well worth the price. But (at least in version 1.3.0) it has its limits, too. Enemies are constantly spawning. Unfortunately most are just trash that provide neither challenge nor interesting loot. Basically there are only three types of enemies (cannot pass through solid tiles, can pass through all tiles but not fly, can pass through all tiles and fly) with one or more of three types of attacks (melee, beams/projectiles that cannot pass through solid tiles, beams/projectiles that can pass through all tiles). This is mostly a missed opportunity to better integrate with the sandbox part (e.g. more special tiles and items that interact with particular enemy types). Most bosses have some special behavior, but overall enemy AI isn't varied and difficulty is low, making combat feel like a mediocre platformer. A lot of items cannot be crafted. They are either dropped by enemies or found in chests randomly distributed throughout the world. This is forcing you onto predefined pathways through the game, preventing the player from playing the game at his own pace (Tip: don't upgrade your health without careful planning; a lot of random events that can throw you off balance are tied to having higher health). There is enough content to keep the player interested for quite some time, but even in small worlds this content is spread thin over quite a large area. As a new unexperienced player expect to be grinding for several days real time to even acquire equipment that can mine all tiles present at the start of the game (Tip: look for guides showing how to defeat the eater of worlds with starting equipment). There is a large selection of items. Unfortunately most of these are copies with minimally different looks and stats. This is also true of crafting recipes, cluttering the primitive crafting interface. None of these problems prevent having fun, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Nice, but not newbie friendly
After 50+ hours (in steam. I bought it there cause wasn`t sure will i be able to crossplay with my steam friend) I am still having troubles doing almost everything. Crafting, finding the right bench for each instument and more and more, but still. To show situation i mention that my friend refuses to teach me cause he " tired of teaching all the newbie friends with basics". It tells us that game is too big and sometimes you can spent many hours and don`t even evolve cause of enormous amount of posibilities. "Also try Minecraft" @Terraria window`s border
