We heard you like games, so we made a game about a game! Terrain of Magical Expertise is a non-linear, story-driven RPG adventure, featuring an original turn-based combat system enhanced with various quicktime events. Your character is a player of a fictional MMORPG which rose to prominence during a (obviously just as fictional) global pandemic, which caused almost everybody to stay home and play games. The game is inspired by a popular animated webseries (but not to worry, you will enjoy playing it even if you have never watched it!) and features a full cast of voice actors, including talents from some of your favorite video games, YouTube channels, anime and cartoons, as well as charming animations and a huge world to explore, “TOME” packs 40+ hours of pure fun.
It's the year 2020, and a popular new MMORPG called "TOME" is hosting a special event with a huge cash prize. You take the role of a White-Hat Hacker, gifted a copy of TOME by a mysterious friend, who asks for a favor to try and take down some sinister Black-Hat Hackers, that are cheating to win the "Campaign of Champions" competition! Joining forces by chance with a guild of determined players called "The Dandy Alliance", you embark on a turn-based role-playing adventure to help your newfound friends achieve victory!

Inspired by a hit animated webseries “TOME: Terrain of Magical Expertise”
This game reminds me of a level-less version of Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, but in a good way. There is enough diversification that you won't necessarily get bored after one playthrough and the story and writing are both tight.
I've been waiting since the initial funding campaign for this game, and I am so very happy that it is here. I do not have any complaints about the game at large. Every time I've failed it has been purely my own fault for not understanding the game's systems as well as I should.
All in all, I absolutely love this game so far and look forward to completing it in its entirety.
this game was inspired by mario rpg but to be honest i liked this game way more than smrpg
if youre a fan of the webseries going in, you should realise that this is an AU and that its going to be different but thats not a bad thing
the soundtrack is so good that im still listening to it months after. its really cool how it uses a different soundfont for each area with the same motifs a lot of the time
the character designs are great. i prefer most of the redesigns. ive spent way too much time drawing some of these characters in school
the game is fully voice acted and the cast and voice direction are fantastic.
the writing is great too, its got great humor (complimented by the voice acting) and the characters are humanised really well. i particularly like rockoon a lot more here than in the webseries
i really like the diversity of character designs for other non-kirb designed players because of how some kickstarters were able to submit their designs, really makes the world feel more alive
the way this game looks is cool. i quite like the designs for people and the environmental designs are fine. sometimes theres visual glitches in battle where stuff is layered wrong but thats kind of a nitpick. only thing i can think of that looks legitimately bad is the dragon bug
my favorite thing about this game is how few game overs there are. theres so many situations where you can lose a fight and the game just continues on, like how it should. whereas stuff like pokemon sends you back to a pokecenter even if it doesnt make sense. again it really helps with making the world feel alive
my biggest gripe though is that the balancing in this game is weird. you get to pick 6 spells for each character and from your options some spells are way better than others. some are even basically useless later on. would be nice if there was an option to change spells for people that picked badly
tldr i highly recommend even if you dont like or havent seen the webseries
The description is very misleading, especially if you've actually watched any of the series on which this game is based. The only "customization" of the character avatar at creation is choosing one of four races. That's it. The game then goes on to "present" all of the customization categories, but the "player" chooses to skip all that and go with the "default" model. I didn't even bother to pick a class before requesting a refund.
I would firstly, like to thank GOG's curation for yet again failing a spot check or not even bothering to check into the background of a project. In a word, the creator of Terrain of Magical Expertise, known as Kirbopher is a sex pest and worse.
And unfortunately, 2000 characters simply wouldn't be enough to detail the sordid tail of their coercing of minors & sexual abuse of others.
For your perusal and judgement, I seek to present this: http://amethystlashiec.tumblr.com/post/149095962046/regarding-chris-kirbopher-niosi
This is not the type of person I think GOG should be perusing relationships with.
