My Honest Opinion

Does this game deserve a play? That answer depends on a few factors. Did you grow up in the T1 / T2 era of the franchise? If so, the answer is an absolute YES. This feels like the 3rd movie we all expected to get, but never happened. The game ignores Rise of the Machines, Salvation, Genesis, and whatever that last piece of trash film was called. That being said if you have no nostalgia for the early films, you won’t find anything new here. You may find it very ordinary as an FPS, and even dated in mechanics. As a die hard T1 & T2 fan, I’m really digging this game. I feel it really nails the future war that was hinted at in the original two films.

It's a B action flick of a game. Good!

I like it, if just strictly for the atmosphere and music. It's the movie I want to see, but no one seems to make it. Lots of dark ruined cityscapes with robots, lasers and explosions. I need nothing more for this game to give my cerebral sponge. I am satisfied. Plus, someone has released an AI improvement mod. Also, it reminded me of way back in 2010 some lovely individual released "FPS Terminator" for the world to enjoy. It still holds up quite well and this game seems like a polished version of that. Make sure to check out the Terminator Resistance GOG community forum to learn more about the mods and such treasures as "FPS Terminator". Also, did you know there is another Terminator fan game in the works? It's called "Tech-Com: 2029". Since Hollywood wont deliver, I guess the community will. A brave new world! Message to GOG: Do whatever you can to get Bethesda to cough up Terminator Future Shock and Skynet please! The best Terminator games ever made IMO.

Worthy game for all fans of the movies

Should have been released right after T2 movie but then again... ...fans of the first 2 movies wouldn't have had a chance to take this trip back the memory lane. For all of us who wanted to visit the scenes of the future which were so briefly shown in the movies this game provides the means to do so. It starts off slowly, but it really gets intensene in the last "chapters". While being not a shiny & polised AAA shooter, it tells a nice linear story while mixing some RPG elements and lots of exploration. RPG is lacking diversity - at the end of the game one can have all the skill trees unlocked. There really should have be some mutual exclusive choices / character paths to keep things interesting / provide reasons for replaying the game. Inventory and crafting is there, but doesn't get into your way (and can be ignored IMHO). There are even some romance characters. Too bad there is no companion mechanic. But there are buddies you can interact with by doing sidequests & one can even try to change their fate. Weapons are fun and there is also a upgrade system for the modern, energy based weapons. They also have their fair share on the atmosphere. It's just awesome watching & hearing the clash of the two armies using plasma weapons within a postapocalyptic city. I just wished there were some T-1000 to use the shotgun against - but the story tells why they aren't present. Only 4 stars because it's kind of short & the rpg elements aren't really fleshed out. Nevertheless, the game is well worth the price. Kudos for releasing it on GOG :)

I've waited 24 years for this!

Not since "The Terminator: Skynet" which came out in 1996, has there been a Terminator game this good! You'll spend your time scouring the war torn wasteland, looking for weapons and ammo, while finding and helping other humans, eventually hooking back up with Resistance forces. You play as Jacob Rivers, a solder whose entire unit was wiped out by a single infiltrator unit. Game play mainly consists of missions in large, open levels with lots of hidden caches to find. On the harder difficulty settings these are the difference between life and death. There's some light RPG elements such as skill points, and inventory management. You got a well acted story, with multiple endings that are dependent on your actions. Speaking of story, the lore of this game only follows the first two movies of the franchise! The rest are rightfully left out. The biggest surprise about this game is the developer. Teyon is known for making one of the worst movie games of all time 2014's Rambo: The Game. Yet here we are six years later, and they've made one of the very best franchise tie-ins of all time! Talk about a redemption arc!

Ignore game journalists. Ask the players

"When developers actually seem to care about what they're doing with a licensed property, maybe encourage them a bit" - Civvie 11 No game is perfect but it brought me to the world James Cameron built and even after 100% I didn't want to leave. The developer knowledge of the first two movies is so good, so spot on, that no movie after Judgment Day can touch it. Oh and it's a good game too? Graphics could of been better but that is it and it's more a case of the developers didn't have the time or money to do facial mocap. T800s are so well rendered that it brought me back to being 4 years old in 1989 and watching the T800 rise out of wreckage of a tanker completely on fire and me soiling my pants. Stop reading game journalists and trust your fellow gamer on this one. Buy it. DLC too. It's a love letter to the first movie.
