Technical improvement of good game
The original Telepath Tactics had plenty of good features, such as well well-thought-out combat system, an interesting plot and a big variety of "units". Sadly, it was bothered by technical issues and an Adobe Air-based engine, which caused problems with performance, no save-game during missions etc. The Liberated version kept all the good things from the original, but it was built around a new engine, and now it finally works fine! The game runs more smoothly (yes, it's Unity, but works not bad), you can also save your game during battles (only at the beginning of the turn, but it's not a big deal). The portraits are completely reworked, so in terms of presentation, it has very nice improvement. Sabrina still looks terrible with her haircut, but it's her charm, I guess :P There is a bit different "isometric" view giving the impression of depth, while I liked more the original view, I must admit that it shows the environment better, especially lower/higher ground. The most important and attractive parts of the game are still there. I like the "deterministic" combat system (minimising random elements from other games, such as a hit-miss chance (by default every hit is successful, and damage is consistent, but can be modified by attacking from behind or higher/lower ground). The game's universe is genuinely interesting (magic doesn't exist, but people are trained in various telepath disciplines, instead of horses there are giant mantises etc), as well as the plot. And a long and satisfying campaign, plus maps/campaign editor, which is great BTW). Almost all good characters are females, bad guys (especially those cruel and stupid) are white males. Why? What's the point? Also - spriggats look like a mix of Devil and Bdsm fan, I don't like them :P I'm missing the original Skirmish mode, now you can only play in skirmish with AI or other player if you make or download adequate map(s) for it. But overall - an excellent game. Go grab it, totally worth the price!
