I first became aware of Tanglewood when watching this video at Computerphile about Matt Phillips' Genesis development system - you've got to admire this type of project and what it takes to develop in raw assembly.

The feel of the game is instantly familiar to anyone who grew up with Genesis, and I can't help but wonder how much of a hit it would've been if it came out in thee 90s for the art and mood of the game alone.
It's a very relaxing experience that relies on classic gameplay and art style while showing you some things that the classics never did. As a game it's highly satisfying, and I also feel that the purchase is further justified to support homebrew culture. It's awesome!
If you like games like Limbo and Inside or other puzzle-platformers, this should be right up your street.
A fun game with nice 16 bit graphics and a lovely hommage to the megadrive.
Atmospheric, fun - a great little platformer.
Personally, I found it best to just download the ROM from the "backup and goodies" part of GOG once you've bought the game and run it in retroarch, but the installer worked fine - I just like the extra things like save states in retroarch.
Game has save passwords too so if you do want to put the ROM onto an everdrive etc, you can pick up from the stage you were at.
Would recommend
It fits so well with the good platforms of the early 90's.
And does some amazing stuff
Great art and storytelling. Made me remember Pocahontas also for megadrive.
Very good and polished platformer with a simple storyline that makes you care for the protagonist. The controls felt responsive and the soundtrack made this title very immersive for me. The puzzles didn't seem overcomplicated or unfair but were challenging enough.
I played with the PC installation for the GOG achievements, which were interesting to guide me through the possibilities during my time playing the game. I had to redo only one act from the chapter 1 to get all achievements.
It took me 10h to play through the game and get all fireflies. It definitely added time if compared to just going through the game. Some of them were tricky because it meant going out exploring all nooks and crannies. It took some backtracking but none of them were unfair to get if you pay attention to your surroundings. Maybe the most frustrating time was one particular long sequence of almost non-stoping action and no checkpoints at the later parts. One wrong flick at the gamepad meant death or not getting one firefly in the way. I pretty much repeated that for more than an hour. I'm not the best platform player for sure but I took that as a genuine challenge to take pride of the firefly achievement. I'm sure a playthrough without the firefly achievement in mind would be a lot more relaxing.
There were a few glitches that made me restart from the latest checkpoint (the PC installation saves the game at the checkpoints). I was really pushing the boundaries of the exploration and it was very little time lost, so I don't think it was a problem. The checkpoints are well placed in general.
So, I really enjoyed the game and recommend it for anyone interested in platformers with puzzle elements. The story was simple but the protagonist and environment hada lot of character in them.
