BLITZ OUT, FOR THE LADS

You are Slade. Before the nuclear war, Special Ops commando. Now, survivor. Killing had never been your first initiative, but you were good at it... very good. And your time for killing has begun.

The road to salvation, to the Dome, is littered with the corpses of those who sought its life-giving secrets. But no one person has the technology to breach the Done. Each Zoner group has a piece of the answer. All you have to do is separate them from the information that they hold. Time to kill, or be killed.

Top Down Mayhem:
A greater field of vision allows you to implement more sophisticated attack and defense strategies. Multiplane levels surround you with enemy targets in 3D, so now you can pick off enemies both above and below you.

Non-linear territories:
There’s many different paths to victory, so rage anywhere you want within 20 freak-filled indoor and outdoor territories. Take’em on one by one or explore ahead before completing previous levels.

More enemies. Smarter Enemies:
Mutants, Mechs, Humans, Sub-Humans, Freaks, Preppies, Grunts - all with advanced AI that gives them extremely tough, individualized combat behavior.

Massive Firepower:
Disembowel with a Tachyon Cannon, light’em up with a Molotov, or cauterize with a Laser Rifle. With 21 weapons, 22 combat items, and multiple vehicles you can punish anything and everything in sight.

Great action full of sudden deaths

A very unique action title I highly recommend for retro gamers! The top-down action is enjoyable and, even in 'recruit'-difficulty, an experience full of sudden deaths. Saving the game often is a good advice. The game has a wide variety of enemies and weapons, and each weapon deals better with some enemies, with others doing no damage at all. That gives a tactical approach to the action. What I experienced was that I spent a lot of time not knowing what to do. The first level is a good example, with soldiers attacking me without reason, and a certain computer I had to find to get a passcode to a certain door, behind which two towers killed me in a second - reload from the beginning of the level. I think that all this might be because of the missing manual in the game package I got here. I didn't know the game from my youth. But playing it now was and is a great experience too.

Amazing, advance in time, game!

Woaw this game... Was one of the best i've played ever! In the past it was a kind of a game by itself, by design. Good story, good music, fun bestiary, great unique identity, good weapons and other, different vehicles... Honnestly this game was interesting from the beginning to the end, i've love it! I still remember all ennemy voices, what a fun. Hope you will enjoy it the way i've enjoyed it, i wish we could still have this kind of arcadish game, really fun.

A rather forgotten gem from Raven

This was one of a few games of my childhood/early adolescence that was still missing from GOG, so I'm really happy to see it arrive here finally. At the time of its release, Raven were one of my favourite developers, and I enjoyed pretty much all of their output. While this is a top-down shooter it always felt to me like a typical FPS of the time, but played from that top-down perspective. TNP allows you to set up the classic WASD + mouse control scheme right out of the box, and there's just a kind of mid-late '90s Quake/Build era vibe to the game, despite its altered perspective. I had a lot of fun with this back in the day, although never actually finished it due to a lack of skill at the time, coupled with the rather confusing hub-based navigation the game uses - probably one of its only weaker points. If you enjoy '90s PC FPS games I'd really recommend checking this out as it scratches a very similar itch, albeit from a top-down view. Now we just need its fantasy counterpart, Mageslayer, to be added!

A strange and fun experience

I own this for real but of course it does not work being a windows 95 game. So figured I would buy this "patched" version and it works looks worse than it did back then but.. I read some other reviewers and their advice which did not help or work. The biggest problem is how goofy the controls are will try with an xb1 controller may improve gameplay. As per usual this is an overly gory, cryptic and dark humor ridden game classic Raven. You play Slade hes a dude with a shotgun he shoots people and makes bad one liners pretty much constantly. your enemies are a range of semi humans mutants cyborgs and eventually robots if memory serves. There is a good deal of metroid vania type easter egg hunting to complete areas.

Raven Software, hallowed be thy name

The quote is from a Civvie 11 review, a true connoisseur of FPS games that shows the appropriate respect to legendary Raven Software when mentioning them. Raven Software also created Hexen II and Soldier of Fortune - Wishlist them and buy them! One of their hidden gems is Take No Prisoners, not a masterpiece but different, original and relatively open. Solving the game without a walkthrough is an achievement in itself, good ole' fashioned hard. The game is fun and the gore is over-the-top on purpose. The world is open (with a main hub, Hexen-like), the variety of weapons+items+enemies is v.good and looks good considering this was a time when 640X480 was the highest resolution available - see the comment about dgvodoo2 and implement it. I bought it after playing it 2~3 decades ago and I have zero regrets 5/5.
