System Shock® 2 (1999)

As someone who played this for the first time in 2009 honestly I was never impressed. The visuals were starkly behind the curve circa 1999. The story is solid. The gameplay mechanics were clunky and counter intuitive. Even judging it on the critera of 1999, the game was definitely good, but never great and the one category of "greatest of all time" it truly deserves is in the category of nostalgic over hype. Glad to see GOG revive it, and it is most certainly worthy of their asking price, but the way people fawn over the game is not justified and in fact a little off putting. You would think it was the discovery of the holy grail, but the game is not some sort of revelation that will make players fall to their knees weeping in joy. So please do buy it and try it for yourself and see if I am wrong or not. All opinions are subjective and This one is direly needed to counteract much of the undue hype this title has always received.

Ugly graphics, and some questionable weapon skill mechanics didn't really slow down this game. It is one of my favorites.

System Shock 2 is the best of its category in the last 15 years. And this version also support better resolution. Thanks GoG!!

This game defined gaming for me. I cannot recommend it enough. The mechanics, story, use of sound and gameplay are literally second to none. You'll literally feel for the characters you come across. You'll long to find other survivors. You'll feel vulnerable, desperate and you'll be scared.

My prayers have finally been answered by the gods of GoG. This is quite possibly one of the greatest games ever made on any system.
