System Shock® 2 (1999)

Easily one of the best games of all time. Easily. Bioshock? Dead Space? They get their ideas from this game! (Bioshock ...... "Shock") while Dead Space 1 near enough rips off an entire level at one point (I nearly stopped playing DS because I'd played that lvl before) *******Spoilers Below*********** System Shock 2 has it all: Intense FPS Combat, RPG elements, puzzles, research (Monkey Brains), awesome lvls, amazing sounds... it's all there. I will forever, to the end of my days, remember skull-less monkeys and the sound of Cyborg Midwives protecting their strange creations.... Oh and the invisible Ninja things.... Oh just play it. Now. With all the lights ON, and your favorite Teddy near-by. It's THAT good.

This has to have been one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played. Long ago I left my disc at a friends house before finishing the game and I've felt a hole in my soul ever since. I can't begin to describe how overjoyed I am to see this on GOG! I may or may not be biased but I'm dropping everything I'm doing to play this again.

I have played literally thousands of games in my lifetime. This one blows the rest away. This is the ultimate in RPG/FPS/Horror. You will be shocked and chilled, frozen with inevitable horror. The storyline is deep and unnerving. This is perfection in a game. It's an older game and has aged remarkably well. However, since Vista, this game has become a royal pain to run on any windows operating system. I have literally spent weeks trying to get this game to run. This game is also quite rare and hard to track down, and the price can be very steep. But now GoG is selling it for only $9.99! With trouble-free installation! The value of this game is easily in the $49.99 - $59.99 price range were it to be released today. This is a mindblowingly good deal. If you've ever enjoyed ANY game in the rpg, shooter, or horror genre you are neglecting yourself by not grabbing this. This deal is almost surreal.

I once illegally downloaded this game and then got some nice mods/texture packs to make it looks nicer. But, I liked it so much that I felt rather guilty for pirating it. So I deleted it. Then, newer operating systems came out and I could play it even if I wanted to--compatibility problems. Since then, I've bided my time, wait for it to make its way into the GOG library... And at last that day has come! I have always promised myself that once it came out on here, I would immediately buy it. So I did--a gift copy for my brother. I'll get mine, eventually, but I wanted to share the joy and excitement of owning this game, first. As for the game itself, it's a bit dated and we have Bioshock now, but it's still fun. And it's a decent challenge. So, I would suggest it for any survival horror fan, sci-fi fan, or anyone looking for a solid, older game. A "Good Old Game," if you will.

System Shock 2 is probably the only game that after playing it through multiple times still manages to scare the hell out of me! The combination of enemies appearing out of nowhere (including areas you have already cleared out) with creepy sayings like "Join us!" and "Your song is not ours!" and as you turn and try to shoot them only to have your gun jam up on you. Truly a masterpiece of a game!
