System Shock® 2 (1999)

This is a true gaming experience. The mix of RPG and shooter is still unmatched today. Maybe the best game ever created.

Having just completed this game I felt the need to add my voice to the masses. There are a couple of reviews here that claim the graphics are dated or the game play is old and rubbish compared to today's standards. This game is a mix of Bioshock and Deus Ex (the original) and it is truely fantastic. I enjoyed every minute of it. I have seen some mention of using community patches, I didn't bother and found the graphics and sound to be more than reasonable. The start is so damn scary that any more realism would have probably made it unplayable for me!! If you are on the fence with whether to pick this game up (like I was) just take the leap, it's awesome if not a little unnerving!

I pretty much hate this game, my favorite part was when I uninstalled it. I spent most of the game hording supplies that I didn't really need. Ammo and health are plentiful, at least on Normal difficulty. Once you gain the ability to use guns the enemies are all easily killed. The biggest danger is that they will spawn right behind you while you are looting the previous monster that spawned right behind you. The graphics are dated but bearable, the character models are horrible though. Space Monkeys! I don't even know what to say about these. The combat felt very clunky to me, just unsatisfying. The story was pretty meh for me, just never grabbed me. Never felt any of the atmosphere or horror that so many of these reviews are going on about. Just ran about the spaceship looking for key cards, weeeeee. Hacking was pretty tedious with very little payoff considering you can just shoot the cameras and turrets without much trouble. I was very glad when I finished this game, it was a chore to play. I regret missing it when it came out , it might've been a better experiance.

This is about the only game that I can still get absorbed in after all these years. The story, atmosphere and gameplay still shines over the brown and washed out crap we get today. I would almost go as far as to say you have no right to call yourself a gamer until you've played SS2.

I came across this game a few months ago on tv i think it was. After awhile i decided to download it and i was blown away. This game is a must play for any gamer! Not only does it have story, but also great gameplay and sound. I finished it in about 12 hours of gameplay, so it's not too bad. There nothing more I can really say except to download now!
