System Shock® 2 (1999)

OK, so I'll tell ya, I just signed up to GOG, SPECIFICALLY to just buy this game again, and write a quick review. This game is that good. And for the price? It's a no-brainer. I read the whole 60+ pages of reviews just for the hell of it, and there's a reason you can count the negative reviews on one hand. No game is perfect, and this one is no exception, but it's damn close. Dripping with atmosphere, terror, and many wtf moments, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story is well written and well voiced. Possibly the most immersive story in a video game. Ever. Gameplay is excellent and intuitive, and the replayability factor is high. I know I'm only adding to 60 pages of the same comments, but I honestly felt the NEED to do this. And I'm lazy. Buy this game. Fire it up and turn the lights down and the sound up. Enjoy.

This game installed and runs perfectly on my Crunchbang Statler x64 install, using wine 1.4 and the proprietary video drivers for my Radeon GPU. My TV's native resolution (1920x1080) "just worked" and was a selection in the options, which was very sweet. I never played this back in the day, but so far I am really pleased!

For me, this game easily ranks up there in the same list with all of the great classic games.

I'll say this - if you haven't played SS2, I both envy you and pity you. This game is a masterpice, i finished it in one sitting (and many, many saves), alone in the dark with headphones on. Nothing prepares you for the feelings this game will give you, it jumps at you suddenly and it has you hooked. Get this. Now.

A game likely to leave you in a claustrophobic, nervous wreck of a state when first released, this game still has the power to chill. Also one of the earliest games I can remember featuring a fully fledged cooperative multiplayer campaign capability. Just forget the Psi Corps unless you want a 'hardcore challenge.'
