System Shock® 2 (1999)

I really love this game, I've been playing this since I was just a little boy, and I am really happy about SS2 being on GOG now. This game was really innovative at it's time, if it weren't for System Shock 2, there would not even be a Bioshock.

System Shock 2 may be the biggest milestone in GOG's history. The most requested game on the wishlist, many of us didn't think it would be possible but here it is! I feel like at this point there isn't much to be said to convince you to go add this thing to your cart RIGHT NOW, because it's all been said before. It is hands down one of the greatest PC games of all time, up there with genre pushing first person classics like Half life and Deus Ex. I was disappointed a few years ago when I tried to install the old disc on my XP OS and had a bitch of a time getting the thing to run correctly, but I recently discovered the community patches that got this thing running flawlessly, and on my current Win7 rig! No hassle! System Shock 2 is finally trudging out of those dark times where those of us who had never played it couldn't buy it, and those of us who had, couldn't run it. Show your support for GOG AND BUY THIS THING TODAY. Take it from someone who recently played Bioshock, Human Revolution, and Vampire: Bloodlines. I went back to System Shock 2 for a nostalgia trip, and was "shocked" to realize that it's still awesome!

One of the first game that scared the s***t out of me. Great combitation of FPS & RPG elements with good storytelling as a cherry on a top of a cake. What's more, it aged well, so it's still highly enjoyable.

There are certain novels to be read, music to be listen to and films to be watched. They define the medium so much that without knowing how influential the impact of them might be lost on the individual. System Shock 2 is that game. While it hasn't aged well, the story and mechanics are still so compelling that it really doesn't matter.

Over the years I've beaten the game three times on single player, once in coop. the last walkthrough was 4 or 5 years ago, I also lost my original disks so I bought it on GOG, mostly on the off chance that I get someone to play in coop with from time to time, but I installed it and all the mods anyway right away and decided to check whether everything was running fine ... 2 hours later real live intruded and i had to finally exit the game. THIS is how good System Shock 2 is. Even when you know it well, when you know how it ends, when there is no surprise storywise, it still grips you. The log files still work their magic, Polito is still a bossy little ... aeh ... woman of debatable charms, monkeys are scary and it's hard to stop playing. just buy it and thank GOG for making the pinacle of first person scifi horror adventure role playing game again available. It's *well* worth the $9.99!
