System Shock® 2 (1999)

So much great things can be said about System Shock 2. For one, of all the "horror" games I've played System Shock 2 is the only, turely scary game that has actually scared me; From the audio logs to the limited color scheme, it's truely horrifying. Second, the soundtrack; a mix of ambient and electro to perfectly complement the cyberpunk-horror setting, William Gibson would be proud. Third and finally, the gameplay; a true example of player freedom. you can choose to be either a gun expert, tech geek, or a cyber-sorcerer with telekinetic powers. add the wide range of enemies and you've got yourself a masterpiece !

Amazing game, even for 2017 standards (plotwise and atmosphericwise). I had never played this game until now and had a blast. The way the tension builds throughout the game and the logs that let you have insights about what happened before the character woke up (like in bioshock) makes this a wonderfully executed game.

A wave of nostalgia came over me while playing this game again, it was a masterpiece back in 1999 and is still amazing today.

This is one of my all time favorites. They just got almost everything perfectly right. I played this like 3 times and there are still some secrets in the game which I haven't solved. The combat is very hard, the story is perfect and the only thing I can mention is the horrible looking models and the respawn system (monsters respawn on levels). It is a shame that Ken Levine copy-pasted the story of System Shock 2 into Bioshock because this game had all the original ideas and plot twists. I think this is where the e-mail messages / voice recordings idea was invented for the first time. The character improvement system is unrivaled. I am yet to see another game which executes this first-person-horror-rpg-adventure genre so well.

Like everyone says: "The predecessor to Bioshock". System Shock is awesome, trippy, and one of the best games I've played of the genre. There's no reason not to buy it, escpcially when it's on sale. A classic game.
