It's not as scary as it used to be. Running around level 5 looking for things tends to make one tense, though. The game is old, the visuals show, but the story still rocks. "You've done well insect..." - I know it pretty well. I even remember where things are. It's a shame I can't enjoy it like when I played for the first time.
Brilliant game, A classic that everyone loving unsettling horror games should experienced.
There is a lot of RPG elements and the sounds in the game is what made it so unerving at times for me. I honestly had chills running down my spine at times... and also made me jump a few times.
Quite a long game to get to the end but been a joy to play from start to finish.
There is also some tweaks that can be found online to get the game looking and running better.
It also supports widescreen 1080p resolution.
A must play in my opinion.
Hi,
System shock 2 is a (FPS)(RPG). High graphics available with crisp clear graphics. Enter a futuristic scientific era where you choose (1) of (3) pathways (Naval, Agent, Marine), upgrade skills and tech, your going to need it. Good amount of options. You can choose your weapons, armor, and more on your equipment screen. Configurable keys like, movements, jump over/up almost anything, toggle crouch, inventory, speed toggle + much more. Weapons like, pistol, lots of psi powers, shotgun, rifle, laser pistol, emp rifle + more. You can configure item locations in your inventory slots. Intelligent - system data banks which voice the operation (ex: email, logs, notes), menus, large code keys, and there are (2) (A1) system commander chatter's - (1) - that is actually against you calling in enemies when alarms go off, and (1) that is on your side voicing your operations. Heaps of stats to increase (ex: strength, endurance, cyber, agility, psionics, modify, hack, energy, weapons, research, repair) + more. You may need to turn sound channels down/enable sound hardware to avoid any game stutter if you have
(antivirus running or other).
Intelligent overall (A1) system commander chatter's, NPC's voice speeches + chatter, sound effects, music. Freedom of exploration.
Excellent (FPS)(RPG), worth the purchase.

While I oft do very few reviews, SS2 requires me to hail its glory. It was not only the first FPS-RPG I ever played, but also the first game to ever actually make me tense and jumpy. The audio and timing are perfect for its intentions, and unlike the F.E.A.R. series, doesn't become predictable. The Dark Engine used for the game isn't perfect, shiny, and readily able to be HD updated, but really, that would only take away from its classic survival-horror atmosphere. And being such an old game, it will run well on pretty much any old system you have laying around. Besides, how many classic FPS-RPGs have co-op capabilities? Albeit the Deus Ex series holds a close place in my futuristic FPS-RPG loving heart, System Shock 2 still makes me glance around at just a thought in its regard. Worth your hard earned cash.

The game is crashy for me. I am on Mac. The wineskin that is used might not be the best for this game. I've played enough to say that this game is super fun, but crashes are not.
