Description
Includes Syndicate and the American Revolt expansion.
In the dark and twisted cities of tomorrow, corporate syndicates compete for global dominance. But the boardroom deals and corporate takeovers of the future look very different from today: they are lead by marketing directors who manage teams of half-men, half-machine cyborgs with no conscience and plenty of guns.
You are an ambitious marketing director in the Syndicate, hand-picked to lead a team of cyborg mercenaries. You work in the problem-solving department and you are damn good at "taking care" of problems. Some might say that violence is not the answer but you know better. There here are hardly any problems that you can't solve with a well-placed bullet. Collateral damage in the local population and infrastructure during the “negotiations” is, as always, acceptable. After all, what would you expect form the dystopian futuristic world run by mega-corporations?
Syndicate is Bullfrog’s masterpiece of a game in which you aren’t saving the world or protecting innocents. You just make sure that your employers get what they want. At your disposal are four cyborg agents, an impressive arsenal of weapons and gadgets, and a massive selection of cybernetic upgrades. You are free to unleash this power on a highly interactive map where you can blow up buildings, steal cars, light trees on fire, or just shoot stuff. Produced by Peter Molyneux himself, Syndicate is the essence of cyberpunk and, with its great music, stylized visuals, and mind-blowing atmosphere, it has earned its place among the best games of all time. Make sure to check out the game that secured Bullfrog's place in game development hall of fame.
Syndicate was a game I always wanted to play, but man, what a letdown. I love the world and the concept that this game takes place in, but simply put, the moment-to-moment gameplay just isn't much fun. I can only recommend it to people for whom the game is a source of nostalgia.
Probably biased... Who cares. I love this. Used to play it on my DX2 486 Pc a few decades back. Bought it today, started off with the first two missions. its such a great game, Bullfrog was WAY ahead of their time here. Its basically a looter shooter, squad based isometric RPG. Go bananas and kill everyone, or just off weaponized individuals while clearing missions and steal their weapons and use for future weapon research/ sales. This game is soo good and i love it as much today as i did back then which does not go for many games. But for the name of lords and such, why.... why is there no remake/ reimaging of this... Im not even considering the 2012 game cause it has nothing to do with this brilliant game.
Scrolling thru gog and what do I see, I had to stop and pay respect to this game with a review.
I can't even tell you how many hours I spent playing this on my trusty Compaq Deskpro 466.
In a dark room with the volume cranked.
You control 4 cyborgs, you can move as a group or spread them out to cover separate positions or cover multiple objective/targets.
I remember just exploring the city and taking in the atmosphere.. with the background music droning on. do de do, do de do.. do de do de do de do de... wona-na-na-na.. wona-na-na-na....
Then the fight music kicks in and you juice up all your cyborgs for ass kickery.. unleash the miniguns!
another fun thing was to use a persuadatron and recruit the entire city into one big mob *evil laughter*
This game made me a fan of bullfrog and they are sorely missed.
American Revolt is incredibly hard btw.. it's just brutal.
This is not a fast pace shooter game, the action can be intense when it kicks off but it's more strategy and most of the time you're just moving into position or planing your attack.
If the screen shots interest you grab it, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the game play.
I first played this in a creative labs game bundle that also included Ultima 8, Wing Commander 2, and Strike Commander. Path finding is non existent which is annoying, but barring that the game is stellar.
I bought this and have thoroughly enjoyed playing it again, taking me back to my Amiga days! It's a great game, and very atmospheric... I always loved the "Blade Runner" style visuals and the dystopian future in which you have to battle it out with the other syndicates... This is still one of the best games of its time...
