Surprisingly good gameplay, had a lot of fun upgrading and tuning my armies. Quite interesting with the randomness of the items you get to do so. At first the story seemed interesting to me but sadly it went downhill pretty quickly. I didn't mind the generic setup at first but the change in pace was very sudden and i completely lost interest in the story in the middle part of the game. Nonetheless gameplay made up for it.
A classic, yet well told story with some good twists packaged with a gameplay that mostly rely on stat optimization rather than refined tactics. The game expects you to fine-tune your squads through a highly customizable system in order to enjoy seeing them mow down the opposition. Add to the mix a pretty good soundtrack that complement the high fantasy vibes and a fairly paced campaign to create an enjoyable experience.
Played on hard for about 35 hours to get through all the missions (DLC included), with a bit of time spent on optimising my squads.
Somewhat slower-paced than HOMM or Songs of Conquest, but still highly enjoyable strategy game. there is no micromanagement of the encounters, which is somewhat unusaul for the genre, but you can easily get accustomed to that.
