The limitless imagination of Benoît Sokal continues in Syberia 3, focusing on an entirely new adventure. After abandoning the island, Kate is found dying on the edge of a river by the Youkole tribe, a nomadic people migrating with their snow ostriches. Stuck in Valsembor village, together they must find a way to continue their journey in a race against their enemies and unexpected obstacles, not to mention Kate's past, which catches up with her.

I've been in love with Syberia I and Amerzone.
I've liked Syberia II.
Therefore, I'm a bit sad for what I'm about to write.
Sokal's artwork is still a feast for the eyes in Syberia III, no doubt about it.
The gameplay, though, is marred by a number of shortcomings:
- Moving around is much more difficult than it should be. Kate disappears in blind corners or aimlessly go back and forth with no rhyme or reason.
- Interaction with objects is made harder by the cursor disappearing or ignoring clicks.
- The inventory mechanism is quite clunky.
- Dialogues cannot be skipped. For a game delivered in 2017, this is plain silly.
I would gladly overlook these "practical" problems, were they balanced by a compelling story development and exposition. But:
- Lifeless voice acting (I've tried English and French) makes Kate seem cold and detached, less human than Oscar.
- The Yukols are a mass of shallow bumbling fools, only able to tell Kate "Do this! Do That!"
- Very few of the other characters come across as more than bland.
- The puzzle are uniformly on the easy side and mostly very mechanical.
So, while the story in itself is decently written, the atmosphere and enjoyment are spoiled too much to give a positive review.
To sum up: Good story, graphics, music, vocal acting and good puzzles. But the user interface is terrible. The game is incredibly buggy, and I got to the point where the hotspots and the cursor vanished without a trace, even though the animations continued. I really wanted to finish this game, too. Microids: please fix your bugs!~
It's not a good Syberia game. Quite frankly the plot is bad and voice acting is poor. Understandably, they most likely did not have the resources to hire good voice actors and match the accents they are portraying. You need lots of patience because the controls are really bad. I think what happened is the developers wanted to make a point and click to be "updated" to the modern third person game with physical interactive puzzles. The problem is I don't think they had the experience in developing the game they wanted. They are not able to program the behavior and physics of objects very well. You need to suspend your disbelief sometimes because there will be objects in real life are heavier or resistant but you can move easily in game. The NPCs wander around and clip each other and it can block your way. In a crowded area you will have to back track and walk around them. When you interact with a puzzle, sometimes the pointer will disappear or be delayed and you will have to back out and interact again. I liked the first 2 so I didn't mind paying for this to support the developers. This is not a good one though.
I was going to give this game 4 stars, because the 'Sokal' atmosphere is - well - great, a welcome return to the weird world of Syberia. Just have a look at the Youkol market and try not to be impressed. I think I roamed about an hour in that place, because it was so much fun and so... alive.
I was willing to forgive the odd camera positions that make you go into the wrong direction, the wonky point and click system, the mystery of the disappearing mouse after nearly every click.
But then, nearly at the end, there were a few bugs too many. The game freezing after an encounter with the blacksmith with only Ctrl-Alt-Del to resolve the situation (restart the game - windowed - at the lowest resolution got me through it) or the one-way gate that let you enter a certain area, but it doesn't allow you to leave it afterwards.
The ending clearly hints for a Syberia 4 to happen, hopefully it will not take another decade.
It's been a few months since I bought the game but still haven't finished it. Puzzles are not challenging at all but the controls are. It's really hard to move Kate Walker or make her do what you want to do. It's annoying to waste the time on the disappearing mouse because someone designed the game to hide the cursor when you're interacting with small things which need to be moved precisely. The graphic is most of the time like from 2001, fps is low even on high-end graphic cards. Animations are terrible and characters don't move in a natural way.
Every time i goback to the game I quit after 15 minutes because it's no fun to play at all.|
What a waste of great game series. Benoit Sokal should be ashamed of himself.
